Welder/Fabricator

Welder PositionAs a welder at SMS Group you will be able to analyze the assignment and determine the most effective procedure. The welder assembles, fits, tacks, and welds a variety of complex fabrications and assemble. You must be able to work in a team environment, as well as solo on projects. The right candidate will possess written and verbal skills, reasoning, math and language skills, and be able to follow all safety protocol.At SMS group, our people are our greatest asset. We offer company events, activities, and opportunities to participate in charitable initiatives that benefit the communities where we are located.Work from drawings, sketches, and a minimum of instruction.• Assemble parts in proper sequence, place bracing in correct location to minimize distortion.• Perform welding operations such as arc, MIG, TIG brazing and burning in all positions on a variety of metals.• Operate drill press to make parts for fabrication.• Utilize crane and material handling equipment.• Use precision measuring tools.• Follow instructions and established procedures.• Record measurements, record pertinent information as required.• High school diploma or GED preferred.• Read and interpret prints, including welding prints• Weld per SMAW, GMAW, GTAW standards; vertical up, vertical down, and horizontal• Plasma arc cutting• Air carbon arc cutting• Pipe bending, fitting, welding, and threading• Use horizontal and vertical saws, torch, and cut off wheel• Set up and operate all welding machines, be able to do basic troubleshooting• Set up and operate all machines in the fabrication area, be able to do basic troubleshootingCompetitive compensation, medical/dental/vision coverage, paid vacation, paid holiday time, 401k with a company match, training, a tuition reimbursement program and more!SMS group is the leading partner in the world of metals.
