The Safety Manager position reports to the General Manager on site. He/she is responsible for the coordination and delivery of training courses that are required by DSV and the client. The programs would include but are not limited to quality control, work measurement, manufacturing methods, safety, and work instructions. He/she will be responsible for overseeing & maintaining site safety & quality programs regarding site procedures & work instructions, auditing, safety/quality incident investigations, CAPA, Continual Improvement & 5S. To assist in the development of solutions that meet clients' expectations. To develop and conduct competency training that is role-specific in the areas of systems, P&L management, and leadership development and to provide ongoing support to employees in these areas.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Develop self and maintain knowledge in relevant fields at all times.
- Monitor, measure, and report in staff training and development plans and achievements within agreed formats and time.
- Facilitate shift training on safety, operations, quality, standard updates, and procedure updates.
- Facilitate safety training and Associate awareness of regulatory requirements including general awareness and function specific hazardous material handling.
- Implement OJT training programs, as required, to improve site performance.
- Conduct and supervise training and development programs for employees.
- Plan and deliver OJT training courses and programs necessary to meet training needs while keeping in consultation with department heads.
- Ensure all training information is entered into the database.
- Ensure site safety, quality & training programs meet all regulatory, DSV and client requirements.
- Ensure site programs are audit ready to meet ISO (client) & 5-Star (DSV) requirements.
- Arrange for the maintenance of all necessary equipment and materials relating to the effective delivery and measurement of training.
- Plan, develop and implement strategy for staff training and development, establish and maintain appropriate systems for measuring necessary aspects of staff training and development.
- Responsible for equipment operator training, certifications, documentation, and record keeping.
- Issue all certification cards, ID badges, and Safety card to all associates with new hire and renewals.
- Answer (or find the answer) to any questions associates may have.
- Work closely with the Management team and the operations department to help ensure that the business/operational needs are being met. Conduct and/or assist with operational investigations and recommend preventive actions.
- Evaluate all Associates skill levels to identify outages and retrain all Associates on any updates.
- Ensure all staffing changes are accurately reflected in the database and in the training files.
- Associates no longer with the company should have their files pulled and placed with HR file to be retained based on retention timeline.
- Make and maintain supply of forms, orientation packets, and safety packets.
- Ensure all information is communicated with your manager.
- Special requirements (OT, vision, strength, etc.). Need to be flexible with scheduling, could be required to change days and hours of work for training purposes.
- You will also be required to complete any tasks that are assigned by any member of the Management Team.
- Participates in the design of all plant's systems, including quality, security, safety, training, etc. to ensure compatibility with established Corporate Policies, Customer Requirements and internal systems.
- Ensure all OSHA training is completed and documented.
- Engage in managing Continuous Improvement/Lean projects, training, coaching, and mentoring the distribution center via the Quality Improvement Team. (QIT)
- Ensure we have a functioning safety committee and that all the required training is completed.
- Lead investigation of all accidents, near-misses and determine root cause and identify preventive actions.
- Approves, reviews, and monitors Quality Assurance Standard Operating Procedures; provide training as required.
- Assist with development, provides approval, and participates or provided Quality Dept. support during the execution of validations, calibrations, and process control systems.
- Provides quality assurance support to assigned projects and/or areas to ensure that the services provided are within acceptable quality output levels to meet Corporate and/or Customer Requirements.
- Establishes effective lines of communication and feedback with Operational Leadership to ensure prompt attention and resolution of conditions that adversely affect quality of throughput.
- Participates in the development and maintenance of employee participation programs that achieve the individual's potential and added value to the organization. Extends the program to all levels from Lead Quality Inspector to Leadership roles.
- Owner of Work Instructions. Conducts audits of every quality element and SOP's to verify compliance with established procedures. Assist site with establishing corrective action plans and follow up for completion.
- Reviews, revises, and approves company procedures to ensure continual growth opportunities and Work Instructions are maintained.
- Reviews documentation, inspection checklists, and in-process methods to ensure that product specifications are met and that they fulfill the intent of the purchase order and contract when assigned.
- Responsible for management, training, and monitoring of staff responsible for Quality approval for release of in process and finished products and materials.
- Maintain accident statistics, analyze trends and propose and take remedial action where necessary.
- Ensure the implementation of the Emergency management System (EMS) procedures and monitor its effectiveness by undertaking fire evacuation and serve weather drills at the facility at least once a year.
- Responsible for OSHA recordkeeping, reporting and maintenance of required programs and training.
- Ensure safety programs are in place and conduct new hire training for safety and quality.
- Ensure all employees are trained and are able to identify potential hazards in the workplace

Minimum required qualifications include:
- High School Diploma/GED
- 2 years' experience in training and/or warehousing
- Knowledge of inventory management procedures and warehouse terminology and practices required
- Proficient computer knowledge and internet capabilities
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Power Point)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Positive and pleasant attitude, and excellent "people" skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- STRONG confidentially skills
- Able to work un-supervised, will run office at times without Manager present
Skills, knowledge and abilities include:
- Proficient computer knowledge and internet capabilities
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and Power Point)

Other special requirements include:
- Need to be flexible with scheduling, could be required to change days and hours of work for training purposes
Preferred qualifications include:
- Forklift certification: Ability to drive a sit-down electric forklift.
- Undergraduate degree in business or related field
- Experience in developing training programs
- 5 years' experience in training and/or warehousing
Physical demands include:
- The employee uses his/her hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear.
- The employee uses computer and telephone equipment.
- The employee also regularly lifts and/or moves objects up to 10 pounds.
