Maintenance Manager Truss Plant

Overview 84 Lumber is looking for a Maintenance Team Leader to join our team! Ideal candidates should have several years of industrial mechanical and electrical experience and be a self‑starter that can lead a small team. This position will include experienced and apprentice level maintenance personnel reporting to them and a regional supervisor who assists; it is a great opportunity for those looking to expand their leadership skills and take ownership of a maintenance program. Safety is our #1 priority. Have great attendance and reliable transportation. Not take shortcuts; we are heavily focused on proper repairs instead of band‑aid fixes. Have good communication with management via phone, text, and email. Be comfortable using computers to complete work orders, read parts manuals, use email, etc. Be able to lift and move 50 lbs. Be able to operate a forklift and be willing to operate a boom or scissor lift (training provided). Be comfortable working indoors and outdoors (primarily indoors). Work autonomously—complete work via a digital work order system, repair machines, complete PMs, manage and maintain the maintenance shop, get quotes for parts, etc. without major input from others. Skills required for success The ability to lead a team and coach technicians. Assign work orders via a CMMS system, schedule repairs, order parts, call contractors, etc.; it is your job to ensure the department runs smoothly in all facets and report on department metrics. Machine maintenance and repair ability such as: daily/weekly/monthly PM completion, greasing and replacing bearings, replacing cylinders, tensioning and repairing belts and chains, air hose repair, pneumatic component adjustments, saw blade replacements, etc. Electrical knowledge: comfortable using a multimeter to check voltage and test fuses, troubleshoot blown fuses, replace low‑voltage sensors, rewire 3‑phase motors, and identify and troubleshoot basic electrical components such as fuses, breakers, relays, VFDs, etc. Understanding basic automation such as home sensors, position sensors, etc. is a plus. Have moderate fabrication and welding ability (MIG welding, drill press, Oxy‑Acetylene torch, etc.) Familiarity with torque wrenches and torque specs. Cleanliness and organization skills are very important. The technician should take ownership over the shop cleanliness, tools, and spare parts organization, etc. Qualifications Travel to division plant locations outside of the home plant, typically two weeks per month. Supervise and coordinate the installation, setup, and relocation of plant equipment. Evaluate, train, mentor, and support Maintenance Supervisors and maintenance personnel. Partner with Plant Managers to ensure safe, productive, and efficient operations. Provide troubleshooting support and solutions for specialty maintenance issues. Research, analyze, cost, and recommend equipment purchases and operational improvements. Develop and implement maintenance policies, procedures, and best practices across multiple facilities. Communicate regularly with division leadership, plant management, and maintenance teams. Ensure preventative maintenance programs are properly executed and maintained at all plants. Monitor maintenance expenses and support company cost‑control initiatives. Promote and enforce all company safety policies and OSHA compliance standards. Required Skills and Qualifications Strong knowledge of industrial maintenance, manufacturing equipment, and plant operations. Excellent leadership, communication, and team‑building skills. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving abilities. Ability to quickly diagnose operational and equipment issues and implement effective solutions. Experience training and developing maintenance personnel. Proficiency in spreadsheet, internet, and word processing software. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
