Technician Apprentice - Postville, IA

Program Overview The Ziegler Apprenticeship Program offers on‑the‑job training with no prior experience or education required. As a Technician Apprentice, you will build your skillset through hands‑on and classroom training over a 14‑month program, with the goal of earning a career as a diesel repair technician at a nearby Ziegler branch. Course Work General shop skills Hydraulic and hydrostatic systems Diesel engine overhaul and fuel systems Powertrain systems and undercarriage Electrical and machine electronic systems Electronic engines and tier 4 emissions Welding and flame cutting Machine brake systems Applied failure analysis HVAC Report writing Responsibilities Attend and actively participate in all classroom and in‑person trainings. Perform assigned work, including minor repairs and preventative maintenance services. Partner with assigned mentor and senior technicians on large and complex repairs. Maintain a clean and safe work area, adhering to all safety procedures. Follow standard operating procedures and Ziegler appearance standards. Assist in preparing new equipment for rent or sale. Complete other duties as assigned or required. Document work performed (work orders) on a daily/job basis, including labor and parts, to enable proper billing. Interact positively with management and team members to satisfy customer needs. Qualifications Desire for a career as a diesel mechanic. High school degree/GED required (minimum GPA 2.5). High school transcript required. Commitment to the 14‑month program. Ability to travel and work at various Ziegler locations. Minimum age 18 at program start. Strong work ethic, teamwork, and mechanical aptitude. Clean driving record. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Push/pull up to 50 lbs. Lift/carry up to 60 lbs. Repetitive bending, kneeling, and sustained squatting. Forward, overhead, and supine reaching. Use of bolt box, ladder climbing, stair climbing. Work may be indoors or outdoors, with occasional loud noise. Benefits Competitive pay: $17.00–$20.00 hourly, depending on skills, experience, education, and location.
