Instructional Designer
The Instructional Designer position requires flexible work schedules, including evenings and weekends, to meet the position requirements and maintain university operations. This position requires the employee to reside within a reasonable commutable distance of the ECU main campus in Greenville, NC. This position may be eligible for Flexible Work Arrangements under the ECU FWA Policy.
East Carolina University requires applicants to submit a candidate profile online in order to be considered for the position. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. Contingent upon availability of funds.
The Instructional Design (ID) team at ECU supports academic excellence by collaborating with faculty to develop innovative, research-informed, and high-quality course designs. Reporting to the IT Instructional Classroom Support Professional Supervisor, this position designs high-quality courses aligned with program outcomes, best teaching practices, and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles. As a member of the Instructional Design Team, this position enhances teaching and learning through research-based course design, quality review processes, and faculty development. By combining sound pedagogy with effective learning technologies, this position promotes accessibility, engagement, and innovation across all learning environments.
Minimum Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Experience: Master's degree in Education, Communication, Instructional Design, Educational Media or Educational Technology and five years of experience in the education field related to the area of work is beneficial. Experience developing training focused on the use of learning technologies and best practices that support the effective integration of instructional applications. Experience delivering training (face-to-face, virtual and e-learning, etc.) focused on the use of learning technologies and best practices that support the effective integration of instructional applications. Experience conducting evaluations and making recommendations to modify the training program or materials based on the results. Knowledge and experience supporting faculty using the following teaching modes: face-to-face, online, hybrid. Knowledge and understanding of classroom technology hardware and software. Experience providing technical support for learning technologies. Experience assisting faculty with using and implementing learning technologies. Excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, both oral and written.
