Our employees are dependable, driven, and inspired, and together we build powerful partnerships that set a higher standard for our industry.Essential FunctionsMust safely install, troubleshoot, repair, and remove overhead and underground distribution power lines within the scope of their trainingMust safely operate various equipment, including bucket trucks, digger derricks, pickup trucks, excavation equipment, and track equipmentMust know the tools used for line work and how to use, adjust, and calibrate themPerform the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of overhead electrical power lines and systemsKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesFollow safety rules and practices, including wearing PPE, setting up work zones, and using grounding techniquesPossess the knowledge and competence required to perform hot-stick workDemonstrate an aptitude for learning the duties required of a linemanKnow the proper methods for handling, storing, and transporting conduit, wire, pipe, and other materialsKnow the proper methods for safely splicing conduit and installing pipe and wire into enclosuresUnderstand lockout/tagout procedures; be able to read and understand prints for the systems being worked on; and understand electrical safety and how electricity worksUnderstand the operation of support equipment, including digging equipment, vacuum units, and reel trailers; know the tools used for line work and how to use, adjust, and calibrate themUnderstand transformer safety and transformer components; understand the different types of electrical equipment used in a system, including handholes, pedestals, pull-through cabinets, and switchgearKnow proper cable-pulling procedures; understand and demonstrate proper methods for determining whether a line is energized; know the appropriate materials for making terminations and proper crimping standards; and understand and demonstrate proper methods and standards for making secondary terminations, building an elbow, installing secondary cables, and splicing primary cableQualificationsAble to drive support vehicles; a Class A CDL is preferredAble to work safely while performing new construction, maintenance, or repair work on de-energized conductorsDemonstrate proficiency in all methods of cable pulling and installation and the ability to properly splice and terminate underground feeders using heat-shrink splices, primary and secondary conductor terminations, and similar terminations for underground facilities such as vaults, riser poles, and various types of switchgearMust be able to safely troubleshoot, locate, test, de-energize, ground, and repair underground cables and re-energize equipment after repairs are completedMust have knowledge of related construction specifications and applicable OSHA regulations, including those for trenching, excavation, and confined spacesRepair or replace pad-mounted equipment, including switch cabinets and single- and three-phase pad-mounted transformersUnderstand distribution voltages on a circuit and be able to read blueprintsBe capable of performing basic manhole and bucket rescue and escape procedures; training will be providedDemonstrate proficiency with appropriate operating tools and equipment, such as a Dynatel fault finder, Von Thumper, and Von First Response Unit, and with vehicles such as a backhoe and digger derrickMinimum RequirementsAble to obtain a commercial learner's permit within 90 days of employmentAble to travel long distances on short notice when requiredAble to work for extended periods in various locations when requiredAble to lift 80 lbs. or moreAble to properly inspect rubber gloves and PPEWilling to work overtime when requestedWhat You'll Get at AUI IncExcellent healthcare options: Medical, vision, prescriptions, employee assistance program, and more!Free dental and additional Health Incentive discounts availableFinancial Security: Competitive 401(k) with 4% company match that is 100% vested upon depositOvertime PayFamily Focus & Balance: Paid vacation, paid sick time, paid bereavement leave (as applicable), and more!Employer Sponsored Education & Training: We can help you obtain a CDL!FR Clothing provided to you at no costReal-world experience through our Hands-On Training FacilityWellness: On-site fitness centerOther Incentives: Employee Referral Bonus, hotel & per diem pay (when applicable) and tool assistanceAUI Inc (Power) is an Equal Opportunity Employer
