Job Description
The Town of Vinton Public Works Department is seeking dependable, safety‐focused Equipment Operators to support essential community operations and maintenance. This position plays a key role in keeping Vinton’s streets and public infrastructure functioning smoothly for our residents.
Key Responsibilities
o Operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, skid steers, and other machinery used in Public Works operations
o Perform street maintenance, utility work, snow removal, storm response, and other municipal service tasks
o Conduct daily equipment inspections and report necessary maintenance
o Follow all town, state, and federal safety policies and procedures
o Assist with manual labor and crew duties when equipment operation is not required
o Work collaboratively with Public Works teams to complete projects efficiently and safely
Qualifications
o Previous experience operating heavy equipment preferred
o Valid Virginia driver’s license; CDL Class B or ability to obtain required
o Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
o Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and teamwork
o High school diploma or equivalent preferred
