Payroll Specialist

Position Summary The Y is hiring a full‑time Payroll Specialist responsible for processing payroll and managing accounts payable functions for the organization. Responsibilities Process payroll bi‑weekly, maintaining employee information in the HRIS, updating records, and managing benefit enrollments. Enter newly hired employees into the HRIS, creating personnel files and filing appropriately. Work closely with managers using Time and Attendance to facilitate timely time‑card approvals. Review the payroll register with Human Resources or Finance to ensure accuracy. Prepare payroll reports for Human Resources, Finance, and Department Heads. Respond to employee/manager inquiries regarding pay, deductions, benefit enrollments, retirement, tax filings, or other payroll related questions. Enter newly eligible employees into the benefits portal, create confidential files, and file appropriately. Process terminations in HRIS, generate COBRA letters for eligible employees, and file terminated files appropriately. Prepare and process end‑of‑year reporting requirements and W‑2 forms using the HRIS. Assist in coding vendor invoices to proper GL accounts and process outgoing checks to ensure timely delivery. Manage year‑end reporting including 1099 accounts. Manage credit‑card processing and reconciliation process. Assist the Accounting Specialist with opening and sorting the organization’s mail and act as backup for AP and check requests. Qualifications Associates Degree. At least one year of processing payroll for an organization with 50+ employees. At least one year of processing accounts payable. Strong analytical skills. Independent and team player. Attentive to detail and accuracy. Excellent interpersonal skills. Experience with HRIS and payroll software (preferred). Additional Information This position reports to HR and Finance.
