Overview

The Certified Medical Assistant / Registered Medical Assistant performs routine administrative and patient care support duties in a medical practice to assist medical and/or nursing staff in the examination and treatment of patients and ensures that the office runs smoothly.
Qualifications

• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Allied Health (AAH)
• Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) - National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
• Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT) - National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
• Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) - National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA)
• Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Work Experience: Not specified

Responsibilities

• Room patients and collect pertinent information, including chief complaint, family history, social history, surgical history, vital signs, and medication reconciliation.
• Conduct telephone communications with patients, families, pharmacies, and healthcare facilities.
• Gather, document, and maintain patient information via telephone according to department policies and procedures.
• Perform patient check-in and check-out processes.
• Schedule appointments and coordinate referrals and diagnostic testing.
• Verify insurance benefits and obtain prior authorizations.
• Complete administrative and office support tasks in a clinical setting.
• Perform office procedures and point-of-care testing per department competencies.
• Assist with urine catheterizations, bladder scanning, suture/staple removal, and cast application/removal as directed by providers.
• Read and document negative TB skin test results and escalate positive findings to nursing staff.
• Provide patients with written instructions regarding procedures, medications, and follow-up care.
• Deliver provider-directed patient education using approved educational resources.
• Administer medications within scope of practice and provider orders.
• Assist with prescription refills according to department protocols.
• Call prescriptions into pharmacies and notify patients regarding medication refills.
• Document patient interactions and clinical actions within the EMR (EPIC).
• Maintain competency with clinical equipment, specialty procedures, and point-of-care testing.
• Retrieve blood glucose readings from patients via telephone and document trends.
• Create and manage telephone encounters in EPIC.
• Enter blood glucose data and other clinical information into electronic flow records.
• Monitor, order, and maintain clinical supplies and linens, including checking expiration dates.
• Add and document external laboratory results within the EMR.
• Assist registered nurses with forms, letters, and patient documentation.
• Process prior authorizations for diabetic medications and medical supplies.
• Coordinate communication with patients regarding diabetes management and blood sugar monitoring.
• Assist providers during clinical procedures.

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $18.33per hour - $29.69per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
