In this highly visible role, you will work directly with customers to understand their challenges, translate requirements into impactful solutions, and help shape the future of our technology.Combining technical expertise with strategic thinking, you will solve complex engineering problems, validate cutting-edge concepts, and provide leadership and mentorship to engineers and engineering technicians. You will collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and senior leaders—both within Advanced Energy and externally—to deliver exceptional results and advance mission-critical programs.RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for the design and analysis of systems, products, and subsystems/circuits to specification, cost, budget, schedule, and quality goals.Responsible to diagnose issues of diverse scope with design, field performance, reliability and test yields of products and recommend/implement corrective actions to addressAssume responsibility for the success of the product/system in the customers' applications and recommend/implement corrective actions as neededFollow key engineering procedures in the Product Development Process and ECO processWork with manufacturing locations and supply chain groups to implement cost reductions, manufacturability improvements, and quality improvements for existing products WORK ENVIRONMENT:Location: Wilmington, MAEnvironment: Works in a noisy, fast-paced power development lab and standard office environmentFlexibility working across time zones as part of a global team, as requiredUses electronic equipment and can work with high voltageDomestic and international travel of up to 10%Interfaces with internal and external customersOnsite technical support at customer locationsQUALIFICATIONS:RequiredComprehensive knowledge of kV high-voltage design practices and engineering processesExpert-level knowledge of power electronics designAC/DC and DC/DC switched-mode power supply designEMI/EMC design, analysis, and mitigationMagnetic component design and optimizationPower component selection, including MOSFETs, GaN FETs, gate drivers, capacitors, and related devicesFeedback control analysis and control loop designDiscrete analog and digital circuit designEmbedded systems design using microcontrollers and/or FPGA architecturesPCB layout, stack-up design, and noise mitigation techniquesProficiency with simulation tools such as PSIM, SIMPLIS, PLECS, or equivalentAbility to perform statistical and mathematical analysis, including Kalman filtering and Gaussian denoising techniquesStrong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to work independently and solve complex technical problemsPreferredExperience with MATLAB, Mathcad, or similar engineering toolsWorking knowledge of microcontroller and FPGA firmware developmentUnderstanding of EtherCAT and industrial communication protocolsExperience with thermal design and thermal management techniquesExperience designing products for safety, regulatory compliance, and certificationFamiliarity with IEC 61000, UL, and other applicable industry standardsEXPERIENCE:12+ years of electrical engineering experience, including high-voltage (kV) power systems and power electronics designExperience with switch-mode power supplies (SMPS) and power electronics applicationsExperience independently solving complex technical challenges and leading technical initiativesExperience managing multiple projects and priorities simultaneouslyExperience providing technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance to engineers and engineering techniciansExperience influencing, negotiating, and driving solutions in complex technical environmentsHands-on laboratory, testing, debugging, and troubleshooting experienceExperience developing product specifications, verification plans, and test proceduresExperience with reliability and environmental testing, including HALT, HASS, and ALT methodologiesExperience with DFM (Design for Manufacturability), DFT (Design for Testability), and FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis)EDUCATION:B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field.COMPENSATION: As required by multiple state pay transparency laws, Advanced Energy provides a reasonable range of compensation for each job posting. Actual compensation is influenced by an array of factors including, but not limited to, skill set, level of experience, and specific office location. The range of starting pay for this role is $170,000 to $220,000 per year.
