Major Gifts Officer (New York)
HIAS
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Major Gifts Officer (MGO), reporting to the Vice President, Individual Giving & Revenue Operations and/or the Senior Director, Major Gifts, will work as part of a team of individual major gifts officers for HIAS. Major gifts at HIAS are defined as donors of $25,000 annually and above. This cohort will play a large role in supporting the goals and aspirations of HIAS’ newly passed strategic plan, taking the organization through 2030. The MGO will be responsible for its geographic region, and for coordinating with a team of several other MGOs, the mid-level giving team, and the digital and mass market fundraising team.
It is expected that within the next several years, by broadening and upgrading the prospect base and outreach to new constituencies, the MGO will be able to grow both the number of prospects and donors and the total amount raised. To accomplish this task, this position will have the support of the development office for development infrastructure, reports, analytics, and pertinent collateral materials for proposals and grant submissions to donors.
Note, the salary range for this position is $130,000.00-155,000.00. This position is based at our office in New York, New York.

- Considers the appropriate engagement and cultivation strategy for each individual prospective donor.
- Creates an annual plan with benchmarks, to achieve a collective agency goal of $28 million unrestricted goal; leads proactive planning of one-on-one donor engagements, parlor meetings, leveraging visits to engage prospects and deepen donor relationships.
- Leads identification of leadership to assist with strategy and “door-opening” to meet prospects.
- Maintains effective communications with leadership and staff.
- Prepare profiles of prospective donors for leadership when enlisting their help in cultivation and solicitation.
- Administers stewardship activities for major donors by preparing letters of appreciation to donors.
- Analyzes and presents data for measuring results.

- Sophisticated, outgoing individual able to communicate with believable passion for and sensitivity to the mission.
- Strong manager who is a self-starter, pays attention to details and follows through, who listens and can build a motivated team of volunteers.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal/presentation, and written communication skills, with the ability to manage several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
- Comfortable with technology.
- Familiar with planned giving vehicles, and able to work with the national planned giving and endowment team.
- Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
