Senior Diesel & Heavy Equipment MechanicsFull-timeVirginia Beach, VA10% Travel Contingent Upon AwardPosition Summary: The Senior Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic serves as a master mechanic responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and overseeing complex maintenance actions across NSW diesel, heavy equipment, and tactical vehicle fleets. This role performs the most technically demanding repairs and provides expert guidance and oversight to less experienced mechanics within the shop. The Senior Diesel & Heavy Equipment Mechanic ensures maintenance actions meet OEM, NAVFAC, and NSW standards while supporting high equipment availability and operational readiness.Duties and Responsibilities:Perform advanced diagnostics and repairs on diesel and heavy equipment platformsRepair and troubleshoot engines, drivetrains, suspension, braking, and hydraulic systemsProvide expert technical input on complex maintenance issuesOversee and mentor junior and midlevel mechanicsEnsure maintenance quality and compliance with OEM and NAVFAC standardsSupport inspections, audits, and readiness assessmentsOperate Government vehicles during testing and repair activitiesDocument all labor, parts, and repairs in Fleet FocusRequired Qualifications:U.S. citizenship requiredAbility to obtain installation access credentialsAbility to obtain and maintain a Secret clearanceValid U.S. driver's license (Valid CDL preferred)Minimum 6 years as an OEM, commercial fleet, or military diesel/heavy equipment mechanic (or E7–E8 equivalent military experience)Experience maintaining diesel engines over 400 HP and CESE platformsProficiency using Asset Works Fleet FocusAbility to repair all tactical, expeditionary, and nontactical equipment in the shopExperience providing technical oversight and mentorshipASE Master Mechanic certification in Medium Heavy Trucks or Military Tactical Wheeled Vehicles (May be waived with 5 years as a depot level shop lead mechanic or supervisor)Strong verbal and written communication skillsCompliance with hazardous material, safety, and facility access proceduresCompliance with drugfree workforce requirementsAbility to lift up to 75 poundsStanding, bending, kneeling, climbing on vehicles and equipmentWork in motor pool, shop, and field environmentsExposure to noise, fuels, lubricants, exhaust, weather, and rugged terrainPhysical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, listen, and write. The employee frequently is required to use foot/ankle motions, hands or fingers, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is required to stand, walk, sit; and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
