DESCRIPTION

The Department of Medicine (DOM) is the largest department within the UCSD School of Medicine and is responsible for fulfilling the teaching, research, and clinical missions of the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. The department employs approximately 500 salaried faculty, 168 academic appointees, 331 residents, fellow and postdocs and 479 staff personnel.

Under supervision, the incumbent will be responsible for overseeing assessment and project coordination for studies evaluating multicomponent, patient-centered approaches to improve ICU recovery, sleep, and delirium management. Primary responsibilities include project coordination which includes administering various assessments; coordinating protocol implementation and modifications; ensuring protocol compliance; maintenance of accurate and complete clinical research files; close monitoring of assessments, interventions and on-going activities of the projects; and propose solutions and strategies to resolve any issues that might arise. The incumbent will also oversee scheduling, recruitment, preparation of data for processing, data entry, data extraction, statistical analyses, and other research-related tasks, as well as lead selection, onboarding, and oversight of undergraduate volunteers in the lab. The incumbent will routinely attend research meetings and assist with meeting agendas and minutes. Perform other miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as required.


If licensed as a phlebotomist, will perform standard blood-drawing procedures such as the collection, storage and accurate labeling of study participants' blood samples. Sample collection tasks will include drawing the participants' blood, processing samples through centrifugation and pipetting, labeling each specimen correctly. Regardless of phlebotomy license status, the Staff Research Coordinator will be responsible for safely transporting and storing blood samples. The Staff Research Coordinator will follow standard infection control procedures and safety policies and take universal precautionary measures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Theoretical knowledge of medicine, critical care, delirium, biology, and/or related fields acquired through a Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent education and/or experience.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to foster a good working relationship with a wide variety of people, using tact, diplomacy, confidentiality and flexibility.
• Proven ability to prioritize work in an environment with frequent interruptions, maintaining a high degree of judgment and confidentiality, while working independently and resourcefully against deadlines.
• Demonstrated experience in a research setting.
• Proven ability to implement recruitment strategies of participants for research study and screen database to evaluate their eligibility for study participation.
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with electronic devices such as smartphones.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse study population and staff. Cultural competency working with diverse populations.
• Demonstrated experience in interviewing; proven ability to recognize inadequate responses and collect reliable information in interviews; excellent observational skills.
• Demonstrated experience with word processing, graphics, statistical, and database programs.
• Proven ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
• Proven ability to take initiative and responsibility for assigned functions and carry tasks through to completion.
• Proven ability to conduct comprehensive literature reviews utilizing multiple sources of media.
• Knowledge of statistical concepts and ability to perform statistical analyses.
• Demonstrated experience working with clinical data related to human subjects research.
• Proven ability to effectively and accurately document research procedures.
• Must be able to work with older adults.
• Proven ability to develop, coordinate and implement recruitment strategies of participants for research study and screen database to evaluate their eligibility for study participation.
• Demonstrated experience coordinating the day-to-day operations of the study, including coordinating with schedulers and study participants.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Proficiency in written and oral English and Spanish.
• Certified Phlebotomy Technician (CPT).
• Phlebotomy training, certification, and experience, with demonstrated ability to perform venipuncture/phlebotomy on patients with difficult venous accessibility.
• CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider (recognized by AHA or equivalent).

Annual Full Pay Range: $65,208 - $104,901 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)


Hourly Equivalent: $31.23 - $50.24


Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
