Overview Clinical Instructors supervise and evaluate clinical lab and/or patient care experiences as assigned by the Director of Clinical Education. They guide students in clinical situations to meet goals and objectives, evaluate performance, and ensure safe and competent patient care. Responsibilities Evaluate cognitive, psychomotor, and affective skills of students. Direct students to clinical situations to meet goals, increase skills, and pass competency evaluations. Supervise students’ skill practice and clinical patient care. Ensure accurate and safe skill performance; correct and remediate as appropriate. Maintain a safe practice environment. Complete assigned competency rating forms and review with students. Utilize evidence-based principles of current respiratory practice for clinical experience. Adhere to professional standards and legal guidelines of practice. Consult with the Director of Clinical Education regarding observed student behavior, attitude, and skills that are unacceptable. Be a role model demonstrating responsible and professional Respiratory Therapist behavior. Attend scheduled department staff meetings. Participate in ongoing training as assigned to ensure inter-rater reliability. Document student progress and competency using the Trajecsys Clinical Management Tracking software; maintain privacy of passwords and student information. Participate in semester-end clinical and laboratory proficiency testing. Other duties as assigned. Education and Licensure An Associate in Science degree in Respiratory Care is required, or an Associate’s degree with general education requirements to become a Respiratory Therapist. Valid Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential and current active Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license as required by the state of New Jersey. Member of AARC is a plus. Experience and Skills Minimum of three years of clinical respiratory experience required. Teaching experience is preferred. Competent in personal computer applications (word processing, spreadsheet, database, email). AHA Certification in BLS for Healthcare Professionals. Excellent written and oral communication and analytical skills. Ability to delegate and manage small groups; strong critical thinking skills. Clinical and/or instructional experience in the specific respiratory field (e.g., Pediatrics). Physical Demands and Work Environment Duties are performed in a medical facility, acute care hospital, or other healthcare setting as scheduled. Some physical effort required; may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods in a clinical setting; some travel may be required. Employment Details and Salary Position type: Part-time. Hours not to exceed 25 per week. Flexible schedule to meet department needs. Some evenings, weekends, and extended hours may be required. Travel to campus and clinical affiliates; hours outside traditional weekday schedule may be required. Residency requirement: Employee must establish primary residency in New Jersey within one year of appointment unless exempted. Clinical Instructor must be an employee of one of the affiliate healthcare systems. Salary: $50.00 per hour.
