In this role, you will help prepare fresh, high-quality sushi rolls to be sold in our store, as well as help customers with any made-to-order or special requests. You will work alongside experienced sushi chefs, learning traditional techniques and perfecting your craft in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment. Responsibilities: Prepare ingredients, including slicing fish, cutting vegetables, and making sushi rice Assist in making sushi rolls, nigiri, sashimi, and other menu items according to recipes and presentation standards Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, following food safety and sanitation guidelines Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, ensuring timely preparation Uphold excellent food presentation and customer satisfaction Requirements: 1+ years of kitchen experience, preferably in a sushi or Japanese restaurant Basic knife skills and familiarity with sushi products Willingness to learn and grow in a culinary setting At Wegmans we've always believed we can achieve our goals only if we first fulfill the needs of our people. Experience cutting sashimi and sushi neta; Experience working as a Sushi cook; Work Environment: The physical demands of this work are classified as medium. Work includes walking, standing for up to 4 hours without a break, repetitive hand and arm movements including forceful pinching and gripping as well as awkward and forceful postures of the wrist, bending, reaching, frequent lifting, and occasional heavy lifting, along with continuous interaction with customers and coworkers in a fast-paced environment. The average weight range of items lifted is 5-20 pounds with a maximum weight lifted of 50 pounds rarely. Upper extremity repetition is moderate to moderately high and trunk movement involves moderate twisting, bending, and pivoting. May be exposed to various allergens (things that may cause an allergic reaction). The work environment is indoors with exposure to cold 33-55 degrees temperatures near hot equipment (exceeds 135 degrees).
