Job Summary

The Director of Fitness oversees the operation and upkeep of all that goes on in the Fitness Center, including supervising, training, and delegating responsibilities to the Fitness Department Team members. The Director creates an environment that facilitates a highly desirable amenity attraction to members. The goal of the Director is to provide a comfortable, clean, and up-to-date facility in which members may advance toward their individual health and fitness goals while following the Director’s safety recommendations. 

Supervisory Responsibilities

• Hires, manages, and trains department staff in all technical and non-technical aspects of their role.
• Creates, maintains, and distributes weekly schedules for staff, staying within payroll budget. 
• Works in a “hands-on” and supervisory capacity with all of those on the fitness team to maintain a clean, comfortable, safe environment that follows the latest trends for the members to experience a first-class operation. 
• Trains and supervises staff on how to maintain an organized and clean workout environment (picking up and straightening of workout and locker areas) to a level commensurate with a high-level resort spa. 
• Trains and follows through with staff for a complete knowledge of the fitness center and the amenities offered, hours of operation, instruction, and services offered. Maintains the member daily sign-in sheets.  

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Leads by example and lends a hand wherever needed to deliver a quality fitness experience to the membership.  
• Through study of fitness trends, proposes capital additions and deletions to exercise equipment or class additions that might impact the operating budget and proposes budgets for future initiatives to meet Club standards. 
• Follows all club operating policies, proposes, and administers capital and operating budgets, to be accountable for all expenses that occur in the Fitness Department.
• Familiar with best practices to deal with the more “sensitive” issues that may be encountered in the health and fitness area. 
• Works in conjunction with the Director of Tennis Operations to maintain the overall appearance and well-being of the building in which the fitness center and tennis shop are located.
• Oversees facilities directly, including the men’s and women’s locker rooms, the weight and aerobics rooms, and the stairways leading to the upper level of the building.
• Communicates with the members on all issues ranging from Club activities to health and fitness-related advancements.
• Oversees direction and staffing to maintain inventory of all amenities needed for the locker rooms in the tennis and fitness area (towels, soap, shampoo, razors, and personal hygiene products).
• Assures that newsletter articles are consistently available when requested.
• Follows CCM mission and values, including providing the best quality service possible. “Service with a Smile” is a key element in providing a positive experience.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• A thorough knowledge of the field of Health and Human Performance is necessary for the safe and effective directing of the membership.
• Must be able to work flexible hours. 
• Must maintain a high level of punctuality and responsibility.
• Understands and meets OSHA standards and Material Safety Data as required for the safe operation of a facility of this nature. 

Education and Experience:

• 2-3 adequate supervisory experience in a fitness center or a private club. 
• College degree in exercise science or a related field or certification in Health/Fitness Instruction is preferred but may be accepted as a candidate if making satisfactory progress towards such a degree as deemed as denoted by the General Manager. 
• Must maintain current first aid, CPR, and AED certifications. 

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• This position requires high levels of strength, stamina, and intellectual ability to multitask many projects.
• Long periods of sitting, walking, and standing up are involved in this position.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times, with or without accommodation.
