Special Education Social Worker

The Special Education Social Worker provides social work services to students with disabilities whose Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) include social work or counseling as a related service. This is an itinerant position servicing students in Union Twp Schools, MSD Boone Twp, Porter Twp, and East Porter County Schools. Essential duties and responsibilities include providing individual and small-group counseling services as specified in students' IEPs, working with the TOR to develop, implement, and monitor counseling goals and objectives aligned with students' educational needs, delivering evidence-based interventions that address social-emotional learning, emotional regulation, coping skills, problem-solving, conflict resolution, peer relationships, self-advocacy, and behavioral functioning, providing crisis intervention and support for students experiencing emotional or behavioral crises, monitoring student progress and adjusting interventions based on data and student response, participating as an active member of multidisciplinary evaluation and IEP teams, maintaining documentation demonstrating implementation of IEP counseling services and student progress, completing evaluation reports to determine if students are eligible for counseling services as a related service, participating in annual reviews, reevaluations, manifestation determinations, and transition planning meetings as assigned, consulting with staff regarding effective behavioral, emotional, and social interventions within the educational setting, communicating regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, strategies, and available supports, coordinating with community agencies, mental health providers, medical professionals, and outside service providers, as appropriate and with required consent, and supporting positive school-home-community partnerships that promote student well-being. Qualifications include a master's degree in social work (MSW) from an accredited institution.
