Summary
The general practice dental officer serves as a practicing dentist who performs a full range of professional dental procedures in connection with the treatment of commonly encountered dental diseases or dental health problems requiring standard corrective, restorative, or preventive measures.

Duties
- Make oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity and provide interpretation of imaging.
- Review medical history and apply knowledge to patient management.
- Diagnose pathological or irregular oral conditions.
- Perform treatment planning—including multi-step—complex plans with input from specialists as needed.
- Administer local anesthesia and nitrous oxide.
- Perform routine and complex restoration of teeth.
- Perform routine extractions and other surgical procedures within the scope of a general dentist.
- Perform prosthetic dentistry—including immediate full and partial dentures, crowns, and fixed bridge work.
- Perform routine dental implant restorations.
- Perform routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth.
- Perform routine periodontal procedures.
Requirements
The General Dentistry dental officer shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry, including the ability to perform selected specialty services.
