Description Location: Juvenile Detention Facility - Detroit, MI 48211 Position Summary: The Southeast Michigan Health Association (SEMHA) seeks a Board‑Certified Psychiatrist to provide psychiatric services for youth residing at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility. Why Join Us Make a meaningful impact on at-risk youth during a critical stage of development Practice a broad range of clinical skills, including crisis stabilization, trauma‑informed care, and behavioral health treatment Collaborate with nurses, social workers, medical providers, educational staff, and case managers Monitor treatment progress through consistent patient engagement and follow‑up Help shape behavioral health programs, suicide prevention initiatives, and quality improvement efforts Gain valuable experience in adolescent, correctional, and forensic behavioral health Essential Responsibilities Conduct psychiatric evaluations and establish DSM‑5 diagnoses Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, monitor effectiveness and side effects Develop and oversee individualized treatment plans Respond to behavioral health crises, including suicide risk assessments and interventions Collaborate with clinical, medical, and facility staff to ensure coordinated care Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in the EHR Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and treatment planning Provide clinical oversight to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants Support staff training on behavioral health topics, including crisis intervention and suicide prevention Participate in an on‑call rotation for psychiatric emergencies Qualifications Required MD or DO from an accredited medical school Completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program Board Certification in Psychiatry Active and unrestricted Michigan Medical License Current DEA registration Child & Adolescent Psychiatry certification (preferred) Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation Preferred Child & Adolescent Psychiatry certification Experience working with adolescents in correctional, residential, or community mental health settings Knowledge of trauma‑informed care and crisis intervention and suicide prevention Familiarity with juvenile justice systems and suicide prevention protocols Additional Information Part‑time schedule averaging 16 hrs. per week Flexible schedule based on program needs Participation in a 24/7 on‑call rotation is required Opportunity to contribute to program development and quality improvement initiatives Salary $175.00 hourly Employment Type Part‑Time Work Hours 16 hrs. a week Classification Exempt (salaried) Benefits NONE EEO Statement SEMHA is an equal opportunity employer that provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any type.
