POSITION SUMMARY: This position coordinates total nursing care for patients, participates in patient and family teaching, acts as a patient advocate and works as part of a team with ancillary and non-nursing departments. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required. Education: Associate's Degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred. Minimum Work Experience
One or more years of recent Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery experience preferred. Certifications: BCLS upon completion of hospital orientation; ACLS and PALS within six months of hire or transfer date to position. Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (or) obtained within 90 days after hire date; Current S.T.A.B.L.E. certification OR obtained after 6 months of nursery experience but prior to completing 12 months of nursery experience. Successful completion of Neonatal Resuscitation certification within 90 days after hire date. Licenses: Current RN license in state of practice

- Performs plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
- Documents patient care given.
- Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
- Assists patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
- Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
- Works as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient
- Assesses the patient's condition and nursing care needs.
- Sets goals and prescribes appropriate nursing interventions to meet physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of patients.
- Develops individual nursing care plans.
- Implements care plans and makes revisions as needed.
- Evaluates patient care outcomes.
- Collaborates with physicians and other hospital employees.
- Administers medications, treatments and therapies.
- Communicates with patients and oversees provision of care.
- Provides patients and/or family with instruction and education relevant to condition.
- Accurately documents nursing observations, assessments, medications, treatments, and other care given.
Participates and attends meetings as required and/ or assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Additional Information:

- Assists in the orientation of new employees.
- Coordinates and supervises activities of employees and department operations.
- Participates in performance/process improvement activities.
