Job Summary
The Travis County Transportation and Natural Resources department is looking for a well-organized and focused individual who can supervise Natural Resources Specialists and seasonal technicians conducting wildlife management, land management, and maintenance activities on the Balcones Canyonland Preserve (BCP) and other Travis County managed lands. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: This is a job classification within the Professional Support job family. Incumbents use judgment to resolve complex issues involved with research projects. This classification may require a flexible work schedule in order to meet the needs of the department. Duties and Responsibilities
Primary duties include:
• Supervising staff responsible for wildlife management activities
• Supervising and train seasonal technicians who support biological monitoring
• Maintaining preserve infrastructure including facilities, fences, roads, trails, and equipment.
• Conducting habitat enhancement projects.
• Coordinating and reviewing the work of contractors.
• Implementing nuisance species control
• Conducting rare species monitoring
• Reviewing issues that may negatively impact Travis County managed land and coordinating mitigation efforts. The position supervises full-time and seasonal technicians who support land management, maintenance, and biological monitoring activities on the BCP. This position has a hybrid work environment, combining office, teleworking, and various field locations.
Minimum Requirements Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Natural Resources, Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology or a directly related field AND three (3) years experience in natural resources management, land management or field biology, including project management and program development, and one (1) year of supervisory or management experience. OR, Any combination of education and experience that has been achieved and is equivalent to the stated education and experience and required knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this job. Licenses, Registrations, Certifications, or Special Requirements:
Valid Texas Driver's License.
Depending on assigned duties, may require International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Arborist Certification, International Erosion Control Association (IECA) Erosion Control Specialist Certification, or Pest Control License. Preferred Qualifications:

Longevity pay is paid for each year completed after three years of continuous service. Peace Officers in a law enforcement activity, whose job requires state peace officer certification, receive pay after one year of certification. Travis County is a member of the Texas County & District Retirement System with mandatory participation by certain classes of employees. Regular employees earn sick leave at a rate of eight hours per month with unlimited accrual during employment. Part-time employees earn sick leave on a pro-rated basis. Parental Leave
