Locations: Select 1 zone to work plus 1 additional hospital outside of the zone (total of 5 hospital locations).

Under general supervision, the Registered Nurse – System Float Med/Surg provides comprehensive nursing care across multiple medical and surgical units. This role requires the ability to assess complex nursing situations, anticipate patient needs, and deliver evidence-based interventions in a dynamic healthcare environment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Assess patient conditions and identify nursing problems proactively, often before explicit changes in vital signs or clinical indicators become apparent
• Develop and implement individualized, effective nursing care plans based on clinical assessment and patient-specific needs
• Perform a comprehensive range of professional nursing services across medical and surgical patient populations
• Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, and interdisciplinary hospital personnel to ensure coordinated care
• Adapt quickly to different clinical environments while maintaining consistent quality of care across multiple unit assignments
• Demonstrate clinical knowledge and analytical thinking to address complex nursing situations and patient care challenges

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Minimum two years of clinical nursing experience in medical and/or surgical settings
• Demonstrated ability to adapt to multiple clinical environments
• Willingness to float across various hospital units

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

• Proactive clinical assessment and analytical thinking
• Ability to develop and implement individualized nursing care plans
• Strong communication skills with patients, families, and interdisciplinary healthcare teams
• Proficiency in performing a comprehensive range of professional nursing services
• Capacity to prioritize and manage complex patient care situations

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Current licensure from the Michigan State Board of Nursing
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Current tuberculosis screening and required vaccinations (including influenza)
