Position Summary:

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Shop Carpenter / Door Hardware Installer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have carpentry experience, strong mechanical aptitude, and the ability to work efficiently in a production environment. This position is primarily shop-based and involves preparing commercial doors and installing a wide variety of commercial door hardware. The Shop Carpenter / Door Hardware Installer will be responsible for installing hardware to specification, performing quality inspections, and ensuring all products are properly prepared before shipment.

 

Key Responsibilities:

• Install commercial door hardware including hinges, locks, closers, exit devices, panic hardware, weatherstripping, and specialty hardware.
• Prepare and machine wood and hollow metal doors according to project specifications and hardware schedules.
• Read and interpret work orders, shop drawings, door schedules, and hardware sets.
• Accurately measure, mark, drill, route, and modify doors for hardware installation.
• Conduct quality inspections to ensure all doors and hardware are installed correctly and meet project requirements.
• Safely operate hand tools, power tools, routers, drills, saws, and other shop equipment.
• Maintain an organized and clean work area while following all company safety procedures.
• Assist with receiving, organizing, and staging materials and hardware for upcoming projects.
• Report material shortages, damaged products, or quality concerns to supervisors.
• Collaborate with team members to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
• Perform other shop-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Carpentry, woodworking, millwork, or construction experience required.
• Experience installing commercial door hardware preferred but willing to train the right candidate.
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, schedules, and written instructions.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand and power tools.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Forklift experience is a plus but not required.
• Valid driver's license preferred.

 

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 75 lbs).
• Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work on feet for extended periods.
• Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools.
• Ability to move and position commercial doors and related materials throughout the workday.
