BASIC POSITION INFORMATION
Under supervision of the High School Principal or designee, organize and manage the Career Center; plan, organize, develop and implement career educational units, events and publicity; assist students with education program planning and post high school planning; administer vocational and career interest tests and inform students of the results; perform clerical work related to the Career Center. This class performs responsible para-professional, guidance and clerical work in the Career Center. The incumbent exercises judgment in referring students to appropriate guidance and counseling staff. The College/Career Specialist exercises initiative in operating the Career Center, seeking out information for students and making contacts in the business community, colleges and universities.

The District currently has one (1) vacancy for eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, twelve (12) months per school year. The eligibility list being established will be used to fill the current vacancy, for future vacancies, and for substitute positions that may occur within one year in this classification.

The examination process consists of supplemental questions within the application, a written job-related examination, and a qualifications appraisal interview followed by a selection interview for the candidates that are in the top three (3) ranks.


The posted salary is 100% for an eight (8) hour position. The current vacancy is 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week at 100% of the posted salary. The posted salary does not include the salary for longevity. Please refer to the District's website, to view the Classified Salary Schedule.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES AND KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Maintain and organize career center information and files. E
  • Administer, score, and interpret interest and aptitude tests to groups and individual students. E
  • Receive and respond to inquiries from parents, students and staff regarding testing, college, scholarship, other financial information and career information E
  • Assist counseling department with planning, developing and conducting a variety of workshops and classroom presentations for students such as college awareness, scholarships, applications and financial aid, career exploration. E
  • Communicate with local community colleges and universities. E
  • Conduct orientation sessions on Career Center services including preparing and presenting workshops on career awareness, exploration, preparation and job acquisition skills. E
  • Meet individually and with groups of students to identify interests, skills, needs, goals, and career interests; assist students to develop action plans to support long-range college and career goals. E
  • Plan, develop and implement appropriate activities and services within the Career Center such as college, career and military guest speakers, webinars, career days, job fairs; special events and field trips; maintain calendar of Career Center activities. E
  • Identify and disseminate information regarding employment openings, student internships, job fairs and summer program opportunities; provide resume writing assistance to students; conduct mock interviews. E
  • Participate with the East San Gabriel Valley Regional Occupation Program (ESGVROP) by: attending meetings, providing ROP pathway support, communicating between ESGVROP and the high school, monitoring and reporting of attendance of all Career Technical Education (CTE) designated ROP classes to ESGVROP. E
  • Arrange activities for students to include such activities as guest speakers, field trips, job shadow, internships for CTECareer Pathways academies. E
  • Assist CTE career pathway teachers with various aspects of CTE grant requirements including: recruitment of students for CTE classes, monitoring of summer interns, marketing of pathway programs, data collection, reporting, and annual inventory of CTE equipment. E
  • Utilize the database for student work permits and academic requirement for students to work; Assist and work with businesses with placement for student internships and volunteer opportunities. E
  • Arrange visitations to business and industry for students seeking career information. E
  • Maintain and update all college/career related information on all Social media and the followingwebsites; counseling, career center, CTE academies;post and distribute pertinent information via bulletins, flyers, posters, brochures, memoranda, and emails. E
  • Develop forms and office procedures for theCareerCenter, and order, review, catalog and inventory materials and maintain supplies for the Career Center.   • Attend workshops, trainings and conferences to maintain current knowledge of career technical education developments, labor market trends and applicable employment laws.
  • Operate a variety of office equipment including projectors, copiers, scanners and a computer and assigned software; drive a vehicle to conduct work. E
  • Perform necessary clerical duties and maintain bulletin boards and displays.
  • May supervise and train student workers.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in counseling, education, guidance or related field and two years of experience working with counseling, career guidance or assessment testing functions. A
  • Bachelor's degree in the social sciences, education or a closely related field is highly desirable.

Holidays
Up to 16 paid holidays per year depending on months worked for all regular classified employees. Holidays are prorated for all classified employees, based on the hours and months worked per school year.

Vacation
Paid vacation is prorated for all regular classified employees, based on the hours and months worked per school year. Below is the vacation schedule for classified staff and classified management. For the purpose of vacation, a "month of service" is defined as fifteen (15) or more calendar days of paid status in any one calendar month.

1-5 years of service - One day of vacation will be earned per month of service.

6-10 years of service - One and one-quarter (1.25) days of vacation will be earned per month of service.

11-15 years of service - One and one-half (1.5) days of vacation will be earned per month of service.

16-19 years of service - One and one-sixth (1.6) days of vacation will be earned per month of service.

20-24 years of service - One and three-quarter (1.75) days of vacation will be earned per month of service.

25 + years of service - Two (2) days of vacation will be earned per month of service.

Health and Welfare Benefits

Medical Benefits - For full-time classified employees working 40 hours per week, the District will pay 100% of the premium of the least expensive family medical insurance plan (for the employee and eligible dependents). For classified employees whose assignment is less than full time, but 30 hours per week or more, the District will pay a proration of the premium payment for the medical insurance plan based on the hours per week of the position.


Dental Benefits - For classified employees working 30 hours per week or more, the District will pay 100% of the premium for dental benefits for the employee and eligible dependents.

Vision Benefits - For classified employees working 30 hours per week or more, the District will pay up to 100% of the premium for vision benefits for the employee and eligible dependents, depending on which plan is selected by the employee.

Life Insurance Benefits
For classified employees working 15 hours per week or more, the District will pay 100% of the premium for life insurance coverage for the employee of $35,000 ($50,000 for confidential and classified management employees).

The following benefit providers are available for enrollment for eligible classified employees:

*Dental: Delta Dental (PPO) or DeltaCare USA (HMO)

*Vision: Vision Service Plan (VSP) or Safeguard Vision

*Out of pocket costs are dependent on which provider is selected.

Retirement
The District participates in the California Public Employees' Retirement System (CalPERS). Lifetime retirement benefits are provided for eligible retirees. Classified employees working 20 hours or more per week will be enrolled in CalPERS (employees make a mandatory 8% contribution).

Paid Sick Leave
All regular classified employees earn paid sick leave based on one day for each month in which such employees are in a paid status with the District and is prorated on the hours and months worked per school year. For example, employees working 12 months per year will normally earn twelve (12) days of sick leave during each school year. Earned, but unused sick leave can accumulate without limit.

Salary Step Increments
Regular classified employees receive a step increase of 2.5% annually based on their service in the District. Longevity increments of 5% additional salary are granted at the beginning of the 10th, 15th, 20th, 25th, and 30th year of service in the District, which are cumulative.
