Vice President, Site Reliability Engineering

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal training or certification in site reliability engineering, with at least 5 years of applied experience and at least 2 years leading technologists through complex technical challenges.
• Experience managing and developing site reliability or platform engineering teams, including direct responsibility for 8 or more engineers.
• Strong knowledge of site reliability principles, with experience implementing SLI, SLO, and SLA frameworks, error budgets, incident management, and production-readiness practices for large-scale distributed systems and data platforms.
• Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring, including white- and black-box monitoring, alerting, and telemetry tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Datadog, or Splunk.
• Experience leading platform engineering for large-scale data platforms and data lake ecosystems, including Spark and Databricks.
• Proficiency in Python or a similar programming language for automation, platform development, and operational tooling.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Experience guiding teams in the safe, effective use of enterprise-authorized AI in reliability workflows, including validation, escalation, and data-sensitivity practices.
• Proficiency in CI/CD practices and related tools, container orchestration, and troubleshooting common networking technologies and issues.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts in business terms and influence peers and executive partners.
• Preferred: Experience with AWS and cloud-native infrastructure supporting AI/ML and analytics workloads at scale.
• Preferred: Familiarity with big data tools such as Spark, Glue, or MapReduce, and experience supporting data engineering teams in production.
• Preferred: Experience building and managing CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks that support platform reliability and engineering velocity.
• Preferred: Background in AI/ML platform engineering, including infrastructure for model training, serving, and monitoring pipelines.
• Preferred: Contributions to engineering communities through internal forums, communities of practice, or external conferences.

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 8–10 site reliability and platform engineers, fostering ownership, blameless post-mortems, and continuous improvement through tailored feedback and growth plans.
• Own non-functional requirements, availability targets, SLIs, and SLOs for services supporting large-scale data platforms and AI/ML workloads, aligning them with stakeholders and production-readiness standards.
• Guide the design and evolution of observability and reliability frameworks for distributed systems and data platforms, using tools such as Grafana, Dynatrace, Prometheus, Datadog, and Splunk.
• Oversee the architecture and operational stability of data platform infrastructure, including Databricks, Spark-based pipelines, and big data tools, ensuring scalability, security, and performance.
• Promote reuse of enterprise-authorized AI in SRE workflows, setting standards for traceability, auditability, resilience, security, and human validation.
• Encourage continuous improvement through timely feedback, team debriefs, and objective, data-driven post-mortems that help teams learn from successes and failures.
• Manage stakeholders and ensure delivery aligns with compliance, risk and security requirements, service-level agreements, and business objectives.
• Contribute to staffing, budget, and resource planning, including hiring, developing, and recognizing engineering talent.
• Champion SRE practices across the organization and encourage teams to document and share knowledge through communities of practice, guilds, and engineering forums.
• Establish and govern CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code practices such as Terraform, and automation frameworks to accelerate delivery and reduce operational toil.
