About the Position

TravelNurseSource is working with United Health Care Staffing, Inc. to find a qualified ICU/Critical Care RN in Kearney, Nebraska, 68845!

Registered Nurse - ICU

Location:  Kearney, NE

Start Date:  04-27-2026

End Date:  07-27-2026

Contract Type:  Travel Contract

Shift Type:  Rotating 12-hour night shifts, 6:30 PM - 6:30 AM; primarily nights with every-other-weekend requirement and minimum holiday coverage (minimum 2 holidays during the 13-week contract); guaranteed 36 hours/week

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, compassionate critical care to adult patients in a 33-bed ICU (typical ratios 1:2-3)
  • Titrate and manage IV drips (cardiac drips, insulin, sedation) safely and according to protocols
  • Continuously monitor, interpret and document telemetry strips using GE monitoring and chart findings in EPIC
  • Troubleshoot ventilators and respiratory support (nasal cannula up to vents) and collaborate with RTs for complex respiratory needs
  • Respond quickly to patient callbacks (30-minute return requirement if called back) and participate in unit emergency responses
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (physicians, RTs, techs, aides) to develop and execute patient-focused care plans
  • Support unit flow by floating to PCU/MedSurg when needed while maintaining appropriate ratios
  • Complete required orientation and competency assessments (open-book skills exam during orientation — 90% required)

Knowledge & Skills

  • ICU nursing fundamentals and critical thinking in high-acuity settings
  • IV drip titration and safe management of cardiac, insulin and sedation drips
  • Telemetry monitoring and interpretation with experience documenting in EPIC
  • Vent troubleshooting and familiarity with High Flow/CPAP/BiPAP therapies
  • Trauma, cardiac, stroke and sepsis care principles
  • Sedation management and experience with insulin drips
  • Strong interdisciplinary communication and patient/family education skills

Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Nebraska
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU or critical care nursing experience (as specified)
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications; NIHSS certification required
  • Comfortable with 12-hour night shifts and rotating schedules
  • Valid driver's license required at time of submittal (used to verify radius eligibility)
  • Willingness to comply with facility policies (for example: no artificial nails in patient-care areas) and pass required orientation assessments
