The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC) is currently seeking applicants for Park Police Officer Candidate positions. Application Process The written exam is designed to assess cognitive ability measured with three non-cognitive measures: personality constructs, integrity, and biographical data. Candidates will be screened and those meeting the minimum qualifications will receive a notification to attend the exam. Orientation Candidates with passing scores will be invited back for an orientation. Agility Test Applicants completing the written exam with a passing score will be invited back for an Agility Test. To take part in the Agility Test you must have Medical Clearance. Medical Clearance forms must be completed prior to being allowed to take part in the Agility Test. Dress Business casual attire for the written exam. Important You must bring a current, unexpired, valid driver's license and signed Medical Clearance Form with you on the day of testing. Minimum Qualifications Experience: No previous experience in law enforcement is required. Education: High school diploma or Certificate of General Educational Development (GED). Age: Age requirements in accordance with the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (currently age 21 by graduation from academy). Examination: Candidate applicants must pass the Commission's written Police Officer Candidate examination, must pass an oral interview conducted by a Police Assessment board. Successfully pass background investigation and pre-employment medical requirements. A background investigation will be made on each candidate and the candidate must meet the Commission's suitability requirements. Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver’s license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee’s ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required by the position of assignment. Successfully pass commission’s written exam and oral board for park police officer candidates. Medical and Physical Standards: Park Police Candidates must be able to successfully pass a medical examination based on the Commission's medical standards for Park Police administered by a Commission approved medical physician prior to appointment. United States Citizen by birth or naturalization. It is not all-inclusive and is subject to change. Benefits listed are extended to all Merit System employees of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission (M-NCPPC). All plans are optional except the Defined Benefit and Long-Term Disability plans. Eligibility You have 45 days from your hire date to elect your benefits. Your coverage begins on the first of the month following receipt of your enrollment forms and required documentation. Retirement Programs Defined Benefit Plan (Mandatory Participation) – Plan E excludes FOP members. Plan Employee Contribution Plan C 9.5%* of base salary (FOP members only) Plan E 4% of base salary up to maximum Social Security Wage Base (SSWB) and 8% in excess of SSWB. 457 (b) Plan (Optional) [Pre-tax and Roth] Traditional and Roth IRAs (Optional) Retiree Healthcare – Eligibility requires, at least 10 years of eligible service and continuous enrollment in M-NCPPC plans (or proof of continuous enrollment in comparable plans) during the 36 months immediately preceding your retirement date.
