About The Role We’re looking for a dedicated Lab Support Specialist to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, you’ll be a vital part of our clinical team, ensuring excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast‑paced healthcare environment. You will perform phlebotomy techniques to obtain blood specimens from patients of all ages, interpret and transcribe physician orders onto manual requisitions and into the computer Order Entry System, assist in lab functions for proper specimen accessioning, and perform all medically necessary activities required. You will also assist in training new employees and in clerical functions of the department. What You’ll Do Patient Care: Recognize age-specific requirements including safe blood volume and device selection; work independently in various settings; monitor patients for adverse reactions; understand collection site limitations; problem-solve in patient care areas. Blood Specimen Collection: Perform all phases of phlebotomy with a 95% success rate on neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients; collect high-quality specimens, use correct order of draw, appropriate equipment and labeling; maintain and process specimens; problem-solve collection equipment issues. Accessioning: Perform accessioning in Laboratory Information System accurately; triage incoming specimens; review provider orders for required elements; instruct providers on missing information; accept orders by phone and fax; send patient results by fax; use critical thinking and communication to solve requisition problems. Communication: Provide technical staff with electronic communications regarding patient state, collection site, and expectations; greet and identify patients appropriately; explain venipuncture procedures and create patient comfort. Time Management: Prioritize tasks using resources, order priority, patient condition, and provider requests; adjust as necessary. Client Services: Travel to offsite patient locations; courier specimen collection supplies, sharps containers, and waste; record collection data at client site; communicate with physician practices about collection, storage, and processing concerns. Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care in alignment with Saratoga Hospital values. Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support health, healing, and service excellence. Perform clinical responsibilities with a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency. Use hospital systems and tools to document care and support operations. What You Bring High school graduate or GED required; prior phlebotomy experience preferred; certification or eligible with a recognized board of registry recommended. Ability to organize and establish day-to-day priorities while utilizing critical thinking skills. Skill to multitask while remaining professional, focused, composed, and positive.
