Director, Library Services

Title: Director, Library Services Department: SO Library Services Campus Location: South Campus Employee Classification: APT - Administrative Position Type: FT - Regular Grant Funded: No Compensation Details: Starting Pay - $100,500; Commensurate with education and experience Work Hours: The selected candidate will be scheduled for a 40-hour work week. Work schedules will vary throughout the semester to meet demand and will require flexibility to ensure the highest quality of service during peak times. Remote Eligible: This position is not eligible for remote work. Job Summary: This role works in collaboration with library directors, library staff, faculty, and stakeholders across the College to lead and manage the library in alignment with the Learning Commons service model. This includes the development of partnerships, programs, services, policies, budget, and assessment so that it contributes successfully to the vision and mission of the library. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Performance Requirements Develops goals and mission of the libraries; works with other members of the libraries to meet the goals and missions of the libraries and the college. Reviews, revises, and maintains appropriate guidelines and procedures to insure the efficient and effective operation of the libraries. Plans, directs, and evaluates all aspects of the operation of the campus library in support of TCC’s one college learning commons approach to student academic support services. Develops, analyzes, and coordinates departmental budget estimates and controls expenditures to administer approved budget. Contributes to the continued planning, development and continuous improvement of the library and learning commons services, technologies, and collections. Keeps current on changing professional practices and advancements in the fields of libraries, student learning, and academic technology; participates in local, state, regional and national library and learning organizations. Provides creative and effective leadership in building and maintaining community relations with a broad audience including faculty, staff, students, administrators, and the community to promote the learning commons and the college, and presents a positive image of the college’s libraries and academic support services. Communicates with college constituents, community, and administration on library and learning commons issues. Maintains the library environments; contributes to planning for new or renovated facilities. Actively participates in college-wide conversation on student engagement and success. General Supervision and Management Provides for the selection, training, and evaluation of library staff. Monitors, assesses, and evaluates library services and operations; makes recommendations for improvement based on the review and tracking of system and process data. Service Excellence Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations. Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite. Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College (TCC) Institute. Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College. Supervision Works under the general supervision of the assigned campus leader. *Performs Other Related Tasks as Required. Required Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program. Five (5) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance requirements. Three (3) years' experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others). Preferred Qualifications: Earned doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Library and Information Science or a closely related field, including at least eighteen(18) graduate semester hours from an ALA-accredited program. At least one (1) year’s working experience in higher education library setting. Active participation in at least one (1) local, state, regional, or national library and learning organization. At least two (2) years' working experience using, managing, or training others on library systems, learning technology systems, digital learning tools, or Open Educational Resources. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge and understanding of different learning styles and the ability of higher education to contribute to society. Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships, including strong listening, verbal, and written communication to foster a work environment that encourages change and innovation productively, collegiality, cooperatively, and collaboratively. Ability to maintain a high level of diplomacy and tact, ensuring confidentiality and discretion with sensitive and confidential information. Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied and unpredictable in scope and volume. Ability to collect and analyze data and to provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations while exhibiting strong attention to detail, organization, accuracy, and timely completion. Skilled in using automated library applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software. Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire others and delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables.
