Join a dedicated healthcare team in the Midwest region as a Clinic Laboratory Assistant, where your role is vital in supporting accurate and timely laboratory testing. This position involves performing pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical tasks with a focus on quality and patient care.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Prioritize and process incoming specimens following department safety protocols.
• Review pending logs during and at the end of shifts to ensure accuracy.
• Verify physician orders and specimen integrity, generating and attaching labels correctly.
• Distribute specimens promptly, managing orders to meet or exceed turnaround times.
• Resolve processing conflicts, communicate with providers for necessary re-collections.
• Perform quality control checks and notify supervisors of any discrepancies.
• Collect chain of custody drug screens and conduct glucose tolerance testing according to guidelines.
• Review specimen types, volumes, storage, and accession accordingly.
• Maintain laboratory supplies inventory and coordinate reordering as needed.
• Clean and maintain equipment and work areas, ensuring a safe and organized environment.
• Collect specimens using venipuncture, capillary puncture, or arterial methods with minimal patient discomfort.
• Follow strict protocols for patient identification and specimen collection order.
• Provide patient instructions for urine collection and dietary restrictions.
• Assist with administration of medications as ordered (oral, IM, SQ).

Education

High school diploma or GED is required.

Experience

At least one year of experience as a phlebotomist or laboratory assistant is preferred.

Certification/License

No certification or license is required for this position.

Mental And Physical Requirements

Requires close mental and visual attention for short periods. Approximately 50% of the time is spent standing and walking throughout the department. Must be able to lift or carry up to 20 pounds.

Working Conditions

Exposure to infectious materials is constant. Work is performed in an air-conditioned environment with moderate noise levels. Flexibility to work various shifts may be required.
