Date: Apr 28, 2026 Location: El Paso, TX Functional Title: Nurse II Department: Child/Adolescent Psych Nursing Posting Number: 16401 Closing Date: 07/27/2026 Salary Range: $6,579.41 – $7,761.50 per month Shift: Regular Weekend Day (Regular) Join the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) as a Nurse II in the Child/Adolescent Psychiatric Nursing Division. This role provides direct patient care, supervision, and coordination of nursing services within a psychiatric hospital setting. Responsibilities Observe, assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient outcomes while documenting all aspects of patient care. Coordinate scheduling and staffing within assigned areas, and provide proactive management for the service area during assigned shifts. Supervise, counsel, and evaluate other nursing staff and collaborate with Nurse Coordinator, other Nurse Managers, and MH Supervisor/Specialist to ensure 24‑hour continuity of care. Perform direct nursing care to individual patients as needed, including teaching patients about medications, illness, and special treatment. Implement and document special precautions, restraints, and seclusion procedures in accordance with department policy. Participate in the client abuse and neglect process, safety monitoring, and Treatment Intervention Protection Strategies (TIPS). Attend mandatory trainings, ongoing in‑service, and other education programs appropriate to the population. Assist with disaster response and/or continuity of operations (COOP) activation, including alternate shift patterns and locations when required. Provide additional pay for work performed on evenings, nights, or weekends. Essential Job Functions Attend work on a regular basis and comply with shift schedules, overtime, or extended shift as per agency leave policy. Assess health/mental status upon admission or transfer and document assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in patient records. Carry out medical staff orders and nursing interventions according to accepted standards and hospital policies. Maintain patient safety through appropriate use of restraints, seclusion, and patient rights protection. Participate in performance improvement teams and coordinate nursing service personnel on assigned units. Attends mandatory training and participates in ongoing education programs to meet patient needs. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of American Nurses Association Nursing Standards, department policies, and the Nurse Practice Act. Skills in supervisory and management techniques. Ability to perform CPR, agency‑approved aggression management, restraint techniques, and emergency care in a medical or psychiatric emergency. Skills for positive interaction with patients, staff, families, and the public. Ability to handle crisis situations calmly. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Licensed to practice as a registered nurse (RN) in the State of Texas (or a state that recognizes reciprocity through the Nurse Licensure Compact). Initial Screening Criteria Graduation from a nursing program accredited by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. At least six (6) months of experience as a practicing registered nurse. At least six (6) months of experience in a health agency, hospital, or health‑care facility is preferred. Bachelor's degree is preferred.
