QA Laboratory Technician I

Roles & Responsibilities

• Sample, test, plate, read, and record product test results
• Ensure daily records are kept and maintained
• Perform data entry and tracking
• Follow QC Hold Procedures for out-of-specification products
• Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
• Assist in maintaining a 5-S rating of \"A\"
• Perform equipment calibration and troubleshooting
• Participate in driving continuous improvement
• Meet daily with supervisor to cover production-related issues
• Evaluate trends from test results, develop correction plans, and communicate to employees/management
• Implement quality control processes/testing to meet Safeway quality standards and ensure product specifications are met
• Utilize laboratory supplies/items relating to plant sanitation/safety
• Perform other duties as assigned

Experience Required

• Minimum 2 years in a similar role (if substituting for degree)

Skills & Certifications

• Food Science and Microbiology
• Lab test equipment operation and maintenance
• Microbiological, chemical, physical, and organoleptic testing
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Time management and multitasking in fast-paced environments
• Proficiency in Windows-based PC programs
• Oral and written communication

Eligibilities & qualifications

• Bachelor\'s degree in Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, or related science required (or equivalent experience)
• Knowledge of industry best-practice equipment maintenance
• Excellent organizational skills with high initiative and flexibility
• Ability to work with limited supervision
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Ability to work in cold and loud environments
• Adherence to Safeway policies, procedures, and workplace safety standards
