Lead Estimator

Role Description The Lead Estimator is a full-time, on-site role located in Wichita, KS, responsible for overseeing the preparation of accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects. Day-to-day, this role reviews project plans and specifications, performs detailed quantity takeoffs, and develops comprehensive cost breakdowns for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors. The Lead Estimator collaborates closely with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to clarify scope, assess risks, and ensure alignment between estimates and project objectives. This position leads the bidding process, solicits and evaluates subcontractor proposals, and prepares final bid packages and presentations. The role also maintains historical cost data, updates pricing databases, and continuously refines estimating processes to improve efficiency and accuracy. Qualifications Demonstrated expertise in construction estimating, including quantity takeoffs, cost analysis, and bid preparation for commercial building projects. Strong ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and contract documents. Proficiency with estimating software and standard office applications (e.g., Excel, project management tools); experience with construction management platforms is beneficial. Solid understanding of construction means and methods, building materials, and subcontractor scopes across multiple market sectors. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and numerical skills, with attention to detail and accuracy under deadlines. Effective communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, clients, and subcontractors, including the ability to lead estimating meetings. Proven experience mentoring or guiding other estimators and contributing to the improvement of estimating standards and workflows. Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience in commercial construction estimating.
