Adjunct Faculty, Physical Therapist Assistant Program

Job Description: Springfield Technical Community College seeks applicants for the position of Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) Adjunct Faculty. Working with and under the guidance of the PTA Program Coordinator and the supervision of the Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation, this adjunct faculty is responsible for planning and delivering instruction to a diverse population of students, assessing academic performance and supporting student success. In line with Accreditation Standards set forth by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE), the candidate must be competent to deliver a broad scope of physical therapy practice and have documented expertise in their area(s) of teaching responsibility and knowledge of a variety of content delivery methods including distance learning.
The adjunct faculty will be responsible for collaborating with PTA as well as other health faculty to create intra-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary teaching and learning opportunities. The PTA adjunct faculty must be licensed in physical therapy (either as a PT or PTA) and possess and maintain a current license to practice in Massachusetts. SAMPLE OF DUTIES: Under the guidance of the PTA Program Coordinator and the supervision of the Dean of SHPS, the PTA adjunct faculty will demonstrate excellence in the following areas: Leadership and Management:

- Collaborates with the Program Coordinator to meet the goals of the PTA program.
- Submits promptly, and in proper form, all reports and requests as set forth by the Program Coordinator, Dean of SHPS and the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
- Collaborates with faculty and other college staff on initiatives to increase support for physical therapist assistant students and faculty.
- Attend meetings as required.
- In conjunction with the Program Coordinator, assesses student progress toward program goals which are consistent with the College's Student Success Plan and the College's mission.
- Ensures that student learning outcomes for assigned courses are current and assessed regularly, documenting the process and submitting appropriate information to the Program Coordinator and Dean as requested.
- Teaches didactic and laboratory education components of PTA courses to students from a diverse cultural and educational background. The person filling this position is student-centered and understands that student engagement in clinical education enhances knowledge of didactic content and leads to higher student success.
- Evaluates student academic performance in line with department policies and procedures.
- Provides guidance to students in their learning and educational planning.
- Participates in campus/off-campus events and professional development activities.
- Abide by the regulations set out in the Massachusetts Community College Council collective bargaining agreement.
- Ensures utilization and proper maintenance of specialized learning equipment and materials for safe education and client practice.
- Forwards recommendations on instructional supply and equipment needs to the Program Coordinator.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- A minimum of an associate's degree in physical therapy from a CAPTE accredited program
- A minimum of 3 years of physical therapy practice experience that includes managerial aspects of practice and clinical education of students.
- Experience providing didactic education in a variety of settings with a variety of populations.
- Current Massachusetts physical therapy (PT or PTA) license.
- Current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification.
- Currently employed as a PT or PTA in any setting demonstrating contemporary practice.
