Position Overview This position is responsible for enrolling and completing the Level 1 training course, “Paragon,” provided by Petsense. It prepares candidates for a career in grooming and/or bathing. The program is a 15‑week virtual distance‑learning course covering bathing, grooming, safety, pet first aid and CPR, pet handling, dog anatomy and physiology. Assessment includes hands‑on practice, written work, online exams, video viewing, and photo submissions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Maintain regular and predictable attendance. Work scheduled shifts with the flexibility to work varied hours, days, nights, weekends, and overtime as business needs dictate. Support selling initiatives (TEAM): thank the customer, engage with the customer and/or pet, advise products or services, and make the experience memorable. Perform duties required of Groom Technicians in Training, including enrolling and completing Paragon Level 1 within five weeks; safe pet handling; bathing, drying, brushing and combing all coat types; nail trimming; ear cleaning; preparatory hair trimming; basic clipper and finishing techniques; customer service; professionalism; equipment handling and maintenance; animal safety and well‑being; parasite and injury inspection and reporting; safety and sanitization protocols; tool and equipment sanitation; business generation via phone calls, scheduling, reminders, and vaccination verification; record‑keeping of services and vaccination data; computer use; store recovery when needed; live animal care and holding tank sanitation; documentation of all duties. May be required to perform other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Comfortable working with dogs and cats; demonstrates patience and compassion for animals. Ability to provide own grooming tools or willingness to purchase required tools. High school diploma or equivalent; any combination of education and experience may be considered. Ability to read, write and count accurately. Preferred Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Operate and use all grooming tools and equipment, including bathing tubs, brushes, combs, scissors, clippers, dryers, and bathing products. Communicate effectively with associates and customers. Display compassion toward animals and treat them accordingly. Exhibit attention to detail. Read, write and count accurately for documentation. Problem‑solving skills. Basic computer skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to resolve issues ethically and minimally conflict. Working Conditions Generally indoor environment with moderate noise. Exposure to sharp grooming instruments, perfumed shampoos and soaps, pets, and pet waste. Exposure to wet conditions during dog bathing. Exposure to cats and dogs of all sizes, breeds and temperaments. Work shifts vary, generally no less than 4 hours and may exceed 8 hours. Promote a safe and productive work environment for team members and customers by adhering to company safety training and guidelines. Indoor floors and outdoor lots are hard surfaces; lighting and temperature are adequate. Physical Requirements Move and transfer live animals, equipment, and merchandise weighing up to 50 pounds. Stand and maintain a stationary position up to 8 hours while grooming. Move frequently for 4‑8 hours per day around the salon to groom animals, clean, and maintain the salon. Operate grooming instruments including shears and dryers. Occasionally lift or reach merchandise overhead. Bend, kneel, and squat frequently to position oneself while grooming, cleaning shelves, and stocking merchandise. Operate store equipment such as computer, cash register, and other equipment. Read, write and count accurately for documentation. Use strong written and verbal communication to communicate effectively with team members and customers. Position is non‑sedentary. Operate all equipment related to job duties effectively, safely, properly and accurately; provide high‑level customer service.
