Insurance Coverage/Defense Attorney | Manhattan or Holmdel, NJ (Hybrid) – $225K

Location/Schedule: Manhattan or Holmdel, NJ (Hybrid). Either office.

Base Salary : $225K

Practice: Coverage opinions, declaratory judgment actions, and complex insurance defense for U.S. and global carriers, including Lloyd’s syndicates and reinsurers. Defense litigators who want to move into coverage will be considered.

Our client is a New York–metro insurance firm with several offices and 50+ attorneys. The coverage group represents primary and excess carriers, Lloyd’s, and reinsurers. Defense sits next to it, in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, and the point of the defense work is to push exposure onto other parties through additional-insured and indemnity arguments. People have been leaving national and regional defense firms for the files and the hours. Super Lawyers coverage partners are on the matters.

What You’ll Actually Do:

• Draft coverage opinions and reservation-of-rights letters.
• Handle declaratory judgment actions.
• Defend complex liability files and push exposure through additional-insured and indemnity arguments.
• Advise carriers on fraud, SIU, and pre-suit investigations.
• Take depositions and brief coverage and liability motions.

Requirements:

• JD and active New York or New Jersey bar
• 4–8 years post-bar insurance coverage or insurance defense — current Associate, Counsel, or Partner
• Coverage drafting, or complex defense with a real interest in moving into opinions
