This hybrid role combines hands-on welding with general labor tasks in a clean, well-organized production environment. You will work with a variety of metals, use multiple welding processes, and support material handling and preparation to ensure high-quality parts move efficiently through the production process.

Responsibilities

• Use hammers and mallets to install lugs into well and ground drilling tips according to specifications.
• Lift and move parts weighing between 20 and 50 pounds to workstations or skids on a frequent basis.
• Count lugs required for each part and record accurate inventory notes to support production tracking.
• Read and interpret blueprints from various manufacturing sites with differing origins and specifications.
• Lay out and fit all parts and components prior to tacking them together for welding.
• Perform welding using solid wire (MIG / GMAW) and flux or metal core wire (FCAW) on metals such as mild steel, carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and galvanized steel.
• Grind and polish welds after completion to clean, smooth, and detail parts prior to inspection.
• Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, hoists, and sit-down forklifts to move parts from material storage or loading areas to the weld cell.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area in alignment with 5S standards.
• Collaborate with team members across shifts to ensure consistent quality and workflow.

Essential Skills

• At least trade school education in welding or a minimum of 6 months of welding experience.
• Hands-on experience with MIG (GMAW) welding processes.
• Ability to perform welding with flux core and/or metal core (FCAW) wire.
• Experience working with multiple metals, including mild steel, carbon steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and galvanized steel.
• Capability to lift and handle parts weighing between 20 and 50 pounds on a regular basis.
• Basic proficiency in using hand tools such as hammers and mallets in a production setting.
• Comfort operating material handling equipment such as overhead cranes, jib cranes, hoists, and sit-down forklifts (or willingness to learn).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, considered a significant advantage.
• Previous experience in a fabrication or welding shop environment.
• Familiarity with grinding and polishing welds to meet quality and cosmetic standards.
• Understanding of 5S or other lean manufacturing and workplace organization practices.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in counting and documenting inventory.
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple shifts and adapt to changing production needs.

Work Environment

You will work in a new, well-maintained building equipped with brand new CNC machinery, welding stations, and a dedicated painting booth area. The shop follows 5S principles, creating a detailed, clean, and highly organized environment. Approximately 25 employees work across three shifts, providing a collaborative and steady production atmosphere. The role involves frequent lifting of 20 to 50 pounds and regular use of material handling equipment such as overhead cranes, jib cranes, hoists, and sit-down forklifts. Long pants and steel-toe footwear are required as part of the dress code. Safety glasses and uniforms are provided, supporting a strong safety culture and consistent professional appearance.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of FORT LOUDON, PA.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $22.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
