Associate General Counsel

Empath Health is seeking a seasoned Associate General Counsel to serve as a trusted legal advisor and strategic business partner within our mission-driven healthcare organization.

This role is ideal for a seasoned in-house attorney who brings deep legal expertise, executive presence, and a practical, solutions-oriented approach to complex business challenges. The Associate General Counsel will partner closely with executives and operational leaders across the organization, providing strategic counsel on legal, regulatory, employment, litigation, insurance, risk management, and operational matters. The successful candidate will be a trusted advisor who can confidently lead discussions, influence decision-making, and deliver sound, business-focused guidance that advances organizational goals while managing risk.

Experience supporting healthcare organizations with hospice, PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), home health, or other post-acute care services is strongly preferred.

This is a remote position with occasional travel required approximately 4-6 times per year . Active Florida Bar membership is strongly preferred. Candidates licensed in another U.S. jurisdiction must be eligible to obtain Florida Authorized House Counsel status.

What you'll Do

• Serve as a trusted legal advisor and strategic business partner to executive and operational leaders across the organization.
• Provide practical, risk-based counsel on healthcare operations, regulatory matters, employment issues, and organizational initiatives.
• Lead legal support for litigation, claims, investigations, insurance matters, and enterprise risk management activities.
• Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on contracts, transactions, and other significant business arrangements.
• Support compliance with federal and Florida healthcare laws impacting hospice, PACE, home health, and related services.
• Represent the Legal Department in leadership discussions and serve as a capable resource for department leadership as needed.

What You'll Need

• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
• Active Florida Bar membership strongly preferred; candidates licensed in another jurisdiction must be eligible to obtain Florida Authorized House Counsel status.
• Significant experience as an in-house healthcare attorney or advising healthcare organizations, preferably within hospice, PACE, home health, or other post-acute care settings.
• Demonstrated expertise in employment law, litigation management, insurance matters, and risk management.
• Proven ability to balance legal risk with business objectives and develop practical, solution-oriented recommendations.
• Executive presence, strong judgment, and exceptional communication skills with the ability to effectively advise and influence senior leaders.
