Senior Software Engineer - AI (Agent Systems)

Senior Software Engineer – AI (Agent Systems) | Bay Area (Hybrid) | $180K–$260K + equity I’m partnering with a high-growth SaaS company building production-grade AI systems that actually execute work — not just assist it. This is not a “build a model and ship it” role. This is where you design and own agent systems that retrieve context, make decisions, and complete workflows end-to-end in production . You’ll operate at the intersection of backend engineering, distributed systems, and applied AI , shaping how real-world AI systems behave at scale. Responsibilities Build agent-based architectures that take action across complex workflows Design backend systems in Python / Node.js (APIs, services, orchestration layers) Develop multi-step reasoning systems (tool use, state management, execution loops) Implement RAG pipelines and improve retrieval + grounding Create evaluation + observability frameworks to measure system reliability Debug failure modes across retrieval, reasoning, and agent execution Ship full-stack features with TypeScript / React where needed Qualifications 5–8+ years in backend or full-stack software engineering Proven experience shipping AI systems in production (agents, RAG, workflows) Strong system design fundamentals (APIs, distributed systems, scalability) Hands‑on with LLMs beyond basic API usage Python or TypeScript expertise Engineers who can explain why systems work (or fail) — not just build them #J-18808-Ljbffr Harnham
