Where You Will Work    

Our global headquarters is in Phoenix, Arizona. Several hundred employees support global operations in finance, human resources, information technology, planning and more from the main office, satellite offices or online. As a Hybrid employee, you’ll engage in virtual collaboration as well as attend in-person meetings at our Collaboration Hub in Phoenix or at one of our site locations. The Collaboration Hub provides an open, flexible workspace for individuals and teams to come together for various business needs. Amenities at the Hub include a working café, phone booths and meeting rooms with technology tools for virtual and in-person collaboration. In-person attendance may vary based on the position and department requirements.

What You Will Do

Accountable for the successful delivery of engineering services across the capital project portfolio, ensuring engineering scope, schedule, cost, quality, and resource requirements are fully integrated into project execution plans and budgets. Provides leadership, governance, and oversight to drive alignment between engineering activities and overall project objectives.

Establishes engineering execution strategies, performance metrics, reporting frameworks, and change management processes that support predictable and successful project outcomes. Partners closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, Engineering Managers, EPCM partners, and technical teams to ensure engineering deliverables are completed in accordance with approved scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements. Also oversees field engineering and commissioning support through project startup and final handover.

• Provide strategic direction, leadership, and governance for engineering execution across assigned capital projects and portfolios, ensuring alignment with project objectives, stage-gate requirements, corporate standards, and business priorities.
• Oversee the development and integration of engineering execution plans, staffing forecasts, budgets, schedules, deliverable registers, and key milestones to ensure alignment with overall project plans and performance forecasts.
• Establish and maintain engineering performance management frameworks, including reporting systems, key performance indicators, productivity measures, progress tracking methodologies, and forecasting processes that provide clear visibility into engineering performance and project status.
• Lead the implementation and governance of engineering change management processes, ensuring design changes, technical deviations, scope modifications, and engineering-driven impacts are properly assessed, documented, approved, and incorporated into project cost and schedule projections.
• Partner with Engineering Managers to proactively identify project risks, constraints, and performance challenges, developing and executing mitigation and recovery strategies to safeguard engineering deliverables and critical project milestones.
• Provide leadership and accountability for field engineering activities, technical issue resolution, design clarification processes, commissioning engineering support, startup readiness, operational handover, and the promotion of a strong safety culture.
• Champion engineering standardization, the application of lessons learned, best practice adoption, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance project execution and performance across the capital project portfolio.
• Foster effective collaboration and communication among project teams, operating sites, functional departments, EPCM partners, and external service providers to support timely decision-making, issue resolution, and project success.
• Perform other duties as required.

What You Bring To Freeport

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible engineering, project engineering, or project execution experience in mining, minerals processing, industrial facilities, infrastructure, energy, or a related capital-intensive industry.
• Demonstrated leadership experience managing multidisciplinary engineering teams, Engineering Managers, and external engineering service providers.
• Demonstrated experience delivering engineering scope on large, complex capital projects through feasibility, detailed design, construction, commissioning, and startup.
• Experience working with EPC, EPCM, Owner’s Engineer, or hybrid project delivery models.
• Strong knowledge of engineering management, integrated project planning, project controls, risk management, cost and schedule management, quality management, and change management.
• Demonstrated ability to establish engineering execution strategies, performance metrics, progress measurement, forecasting, and executive reporting.
• Strong leadership, stakeholder engagement, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Advanced knowledge of engineering management and capital project delivery processes.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering design, interfaces, constructability, and systems integration.
• Expertise in engineering execution planning, progress measurement, productivity analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
• Comprehensive understanding of engineering change management, configuration control, and technical assurance principles.
• Ability to lead large technical organizations and influence outcomes in a complex, matrixed environment.
• Strong business acumen and ability to balance safety, technical quality, schedule, cost, operability, maintainability, and long-term asset performance.
• Excellent communication and executive presentation skills, including the ability to convey complex technical and project information clearly.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, prioritization, and decision-making capability in dynamic project environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Professional Engineer registration or equivalent professional accreditation.
• Master's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related discipline.
• Experience in copper mining, mineral processing, hydrometallurgical, pyrometallurgical, or other large-scale industrial processing facilities.
• Experience leading engineering execution across multiple concurrent projects or a major capital project portfolio.
• Working knowledge of field engineering, commissioning, startup, operational readiness, and asset handover processes.
• Familiarity with digital engineering tools, engineering data management systems, model-based design, and project delivery technologies.

 Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional incentive compensation considerations based on company and individual performance.  Additionally, this position is currently eligible for annual long-term incentive consideration.  Long-term incentives are contingent upon authorized approval under the terms and conditions of the Company's plan and award agreements.  More details will be shared during the hiring process.
