Registered Nurse (RN) - PCU

Travel Experience Required

No specific travel experience is required; however, strong experience with post-operative patients is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with at least one prior travel assignment or significant experience in a comparable facility.

Shift Details

• Shift: Night 3x12-Hour (18:45 - 07:15)
• Block Scheduling: No

Experience Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience is required.
• Experience at a facility with 250+ beds is preferred; 2 years of experience is ideal.

Charting System

Experience with Epic is mandatory.

Certifications

• ACLS
• BLS
• NIHSS

Required Skills

• Telemetry and cardiac monitoring
• Management and interpretation of dysrhythmias
• IV therapy and phlebotomy
• Central and peripheral line care
• Blood product administration
• Management of cardiac drips (no titration)
• Respiratory care including nasal cannula and oxygen administration
• Non-invasive airway management and care of ventilated patients
• Isolation precautions and PPE adherence

Patient Care Details

• Typical patient ratios: 1:5 during days and nights, with occasional floating required.
• Experience with adult and geriatric patient populations is expected.
• Daily census of approximately 20 patients.
• The unit has 20 beds and provides support for physical therapy, respiratory services, and more.

Unit Information

This role functions in a step-down unit from a general surgical ICU. The unit specializes in bariatric care and serves as backup to the trauma unit. It includes two ventilator-capable beds designated for chronic trach patients, though they are not classified as ICU-level care.

Equipment and Procedures

• Telemetry is monitored remotely, with additional patient care technicians on unit during high demand.
• Medical procedures and equipment include:
• Chest tubes
• Surgical drains
• PICC lines
• IV drips for various medications including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, and Amiodarone

Additional Information

• Pre-approved time off requests: 2 allowed.
• Orientation hours: 32 hours will be provided.
• Float required to other PCU or medical-surgical units based on operational needs.

Professional Requirements

All candidates must be adept in the activation of rapid response and code teams while adhering to established isolation and telemetry protocols. Candidates should possess thorough knowledge of patient care best practices in a step-down medical environment.
