Greenhouse and Horticulture Specialist

Essex North Shore Agricultural & Technical School Facilities, Farm, and Grounds - Danvers, Massachusetts Greenhouse and Horticulture Specialist Starting Date: Immediately Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $24.93 to $35.53 Per Hour Schedule: Tuesday through Saturday or Sunday through Thursday Required certifications: Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License, Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources Applicator License, valid driver’s license. Additional: Satisfactory CORI, SAFIS and SORI; snow removal responsibilities during inclement weather; bilingual preferred. Responsibilities Perform all aspects of horticulture and greenhouse operations and directly manage the operation of three greenhouses and a hoop house. Apply controlled environment agriculture practices and complete routine maintenance on greenhouse equipment. Plant and remove trees, shrubs, flowers and sod as required. Maintain knowledge of landscaping operations and communicate inventory and supply needs to Manager of Farm and Grounds. Assist with the harvesting and stacking of hay bales each year. Keep all working areas clean and organized. Assume any other duties consistent with the position when assigned by the Manager of Farm and Grounds. Assist in the operation of the farm stand and sale of merchandise. Work alongside instructional staff in Plant Science and Culinary Arts programs to engage student learning. Qualifications Bachelor of Science degree in a related field preferred. 5 years of horticulture and greenhouse operation experience. Knowledge of methods, materials and practices in horticulture. Valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer 1C-2A license and Massachusetts Pesticides license (required within probationary period). OSHA 30 certification. Fruit growing experience preferred. Familiarity with operation of farm equipment. Ability to work independently and prioritize work tasks. Terms & Conditions of Employment This is a twelve‑month position at 40 hours per week. A weekend schedule may be required. The holder must be willing to develop professionally in the field.
