Medication Technician

Essential Functions: Administer prescribed treatment and medication to inmate/client at any Sheriff's Office facility as needed and medically required within licensing authorization. Ensure medications are properly stored, ordered, and available for nursing staff. Push a medication cart between locations within the Jail. Recognize and report signs and symptoms of a potentially urgent situation. Maintain accountability and properly document all medication administered to facility specifications. Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality of medical records. Attend meetings and trainings as required. Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor. Education and/or Experience Required: HS Diploma or GED At least 18 years of age. Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications. Preference will be given to those with healthcare experience. Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and pre-employment drug screen. Physical Requirements: Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standard, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. Must be able to life and carry up to 100 pounds. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, including over the telephone, in person, and in writing. Ability to push/pull a medication cart for up to four hours per shift. When fully loaded, the medication cart weights approximately 200 pounds. Ability to sit, stand, bend, crouch and lift light objects. Must be able to enter data and operate phone. Ability to respond to emergent situations, including the ability to run, restrain aggressive or suicidal individuals and manipulate restraint tools. Work Environment: Work is typically performed indoors in a correctional facility. This is a potentially volatile environment with high accountability. This position may be exposed to contagious or infectious diseases or irritating chemicals.
