They assess unit nursing practice and its impact on patient outcomes, lead and provide clinical direction to nursing staff in the delivery of patient care programs, and ensure licensed staff maintains an established level of clinical competency. The role coordinates department orientation and education for all personnel, oversees the clinical direction of unit‑specific orientation, staff development, skills training, continuing education, staff education records, and participation in quality, safety, and satisfaction programs. The educator provides direct care to patients using the Nursing Process as needed to model best practice, supports a collaborative environment through partnership with unit leadership, and coaches, mentors, and counsels staff as needed. They promote a healthy supportive learning environment using adult learning concepts, take complex material to the learner’s level, initiate and participate in nursing research, and model proactive efforts to achieve optimal patient care outcomes. The educator also identifies and assesses learning needs, collaborates in policy development, participates in Root Cause Analysis, attends clinical education committees, acts as a liaison between departments and medical staff, and advances continuous education to meet organizational goals. Responsibilities Displays clinical reasoning and decision making, integrates formal and experiential knowledge, plans unit preceptorships, participates in new staff review, progresses staff toward independent function, guides planning of in‑services and training, mentors nursing personnel, monitors new practices through audits and observations, provides support to staff, integrates advanced technologies into practice, promotes adult learning, initiates research, models best practices, and facilitates clinical competence at bedside. The educator also supports quality and cost‑effective care, manages environmental resources, collaborates on policy revisions, ensures continuity of clinical practice, protects patients and staff from harm, participates in Root Cause Analysis, attends Clinical Education Committees, acts as liaison between departments, and promotes compassionate care and ethical decision making while respecting cultural diversity and patient‑centered values.
