Job Summary We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Biomedical Engineer to manage our medical equipment program and ensure safety, functionality and compliance of medical technology within our healthcare facility. The ideal candidate will have at least three years of hospital or healthcare experience in medical equipment maintenance or management and a deep understanding of computer‑based medical systems, networking protocols, information security and healthcare regulations. Responsibilities Develop and implement a comprehensive medical equipment management program that complies with applicable healthcare standards, regulatory agencies and industry best practices. Create and deliver a curriculum for a continuing education program focused on the safe and effective use of medical technology for staff. Manage a recall and safety alert program for medical devices, including conducting hazard investigations, to meet SMDA and TJC requirements. Lead capital asset and infrastructure planning for medical equipment, covering concept, installation and implementation of complex technology. Serve as the subject‑matter expert in biomedical engineering, providing support for specialized clinical technology, including service, system administration, training, QA and life‑cycle management. Advise clinical and administrative staff on medical technology, assessing viability, suitability, compatibility and safety. Apply project management principles to the deployment of medical equipment and health information technologies. Collaborate with key stakeholders at all levels to integrate medical technology seamlessly. Stay updated on regulatory agencies’ requirements, industry standards and ISO standards to maintain compliance and drive continuous improvement. Location Robley Rex VA Medical Center, 800 Zorn Ave, Louisville, KY 40206 Basic Qualifications Experience within a medical center and Biomedical Engineering department OR, experience working in or with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) OR, understanding of VISN, VA medical center, and Biomedical Engineering department operations Role‑Specific Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering or certification as a Clinical Engineer (CCE) At least three years of hospital or healthcare experience maintaining medical equipment or managing a hospital medical equipment program Demonstrated knowledge of computer‑based medical systems, networking protocols and information security as it applies to medical technology within VHA Competency in conducting a medical equipment management program compliant with regulations, developing continuing education curricula, managing recall and safety alert programs, conducting capital asset and infrastructure planning, and providing lifetime support as a subject‑matter expert Effective communication and collaboration with technical and professional staff at all organizational levels Understanding of regulatory agencies’ requirements, industry standards and ISO standards Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship Ability to obtain and maintain federal public trust clearance for this role Proof of flu vaccination during flu season or appropriate exemption documentation Compensation and Benefits Salary range: $100,000 – $125,000.
