Call rooms are available)Dates Needing Coverage:2026 opens are below, with many more to come in 2027!Please note at time of name clear which opens your candidate can cover!11/2511/2612/1112/1212/2112/2212/2412/2512/2612/2712/2812/3012/31Details:Responsibility for managing labor and performing DeliveriesAvailability to provide overall support for the OBED and LD unitsProvie rapid evaluation and management of obstetric patients presenting to the MercyOne OB Emergency Department, initiating care within 30 minutes and independently assessing patients.The role includes managing high-acuity obstetric cases, coordinating admissions, transfers, operative care with required peer-to-peer communication, and delivering comprehensive antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum care for unassigned and transfer patients.The Hospitalist oversees labor management, including fetal monitoring, procedures, delivery assistance, and provides courtesy deliveries when the primary OB/GYN is unavailable. They serve as the clinical lead during obstetric emergencies and rapid response events and remain available for OB consults.The position collaborates closely with midwives, providing consultation, delivery planning, and delivery for higher-risk or complex patients.Your locum physician will be the sole OB physician on site when working a 24 hour shiftYour locum will cover unassigned deliveries and anything emergentThere are residents on-site but not midwivesWe do not employ midwives but there are midwives at PHC, which is a joint venture with MercyOne, whose patients deliver at our hospital. Those midwives do not have privileges to deliver which is why the OB Hospitalists partner with them on birth planning and actually delivering their patients.VBAC and Twin deliveries: yesAdditional responsibilities include supervising residents and medical students, ensuring clear communication and handoffs, and maintaining accurate documentation and order entry in Epic.Inpatient: Yes, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical CenterThe facility is not accepting providers local to the Des Moines area.Telehealth: NoSupervision of APPs expected: NoNumber of exam rooms per provider: 8 bed OBEDMedical Imaging: YesLab Pharmacy: YesClinic provider daily volume: 2900+ deliveries per year. 1389 visits to OBED per year, roughly 463 result in deliveriesMFM will be on call.
