JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Processing Center Manager is responsible for supervising employees and daily operations at the processing center, as well as for the facility’s overall productivity and profitability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Train, supervise and coach processing center personnel while implementing Company Policies as established by the Store Committee and work rules outlined in the Employee Handbook. Make discipline recommendations to the Processing Center Manager and Senior Director of Retail Operations/Associate Director of Retail Operations (SDRO/ADRO)
• Manages departmental structure, development and monitors production goals
• Maintains proper cash handling and point-of-sale procedures
• Plans and manages projects related to departmental functions. Manages and supports change with direct reports
• Respond appropriately and creatively to the challenges of operating a profitable facility/department via expense controls, employee scheduling and recycling programs
• Maintain employee timekeeping with the use of a payroll system
• Coordinate charitable contributions and client services with the Service Center Manager
• Make reasonable attempts to solve problems arising from customers, volunteers, clients, donors, and staff while utilizing de-escalation skills. Any unresolved problems are to be referred to the Senior Director of Retail Operations/Associate Director of Retail Operations (SDRO/ADRO)
• Help with the recruiting process for open positions as needed. Conduct phone and in-person interviews as directed by the Processing Center Manager. All offers of employment must have specific authorization by the Processing Center Manager
• Meet deadlines for employee reviews and formal coaching expectations
• Communicate and represent the interests and needs of the facility to the Processing Center Manager and SDRO/ADRO
• Communicate facility maintenance problems to the Processing Center Manager and Facilities Manager to provide a safe and clean working environment that complies with all state and local building and fire codes while implementing safety policies through training, reporting safety hazards, and correcting unsafe employee practices
• Attend management meetings as scheduled by the Senior Director of Retail Operations/Associate Director of Retail Operations in the absence of the Processing Center Manager
• Work hand in hand with staff to maximize production efficiencies and promote a spirit of teamwork within the processing center
• Help maintain Google Calendar for proper time management proficiencies
• Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned

Location assignments are subject to change to meet operational needs and aid with staff training and development.

• Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic knowledge of all clothing, accessories, linens, miscellaneous, jewelry, books, collectibles, furniture, small appliances, quality requirements, and resale value.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse staff, customers, and volunteers.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to make timely, accurate decisions.
• Participate in the SVdP Drug & Alcohol Testing Program for Safety Sensitive Positions (including pre-employment and post-incident testing).

• Demonstrate the implementation of best practices as required by the SVdP Safeguarding policy when interacting with children and vulnerable adults.
• For the safety of the clients SVdP serves and as per the Safeguarding Policy, this position requires the successful completion of a criminal background check.

• Minimum of 1 year managerial or supervisory experience required

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS/QUALIFICATIONS:

The mental and physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. While performing the duties of this job:

• This position requires the ability to effectively communicate a wide variety of information to employees, customers, and clients. Good listening, verbal and written skills are required.
• This position requires the ability to perform mathematical calculations necessary to manage a retail business, the ability to prioritize and execute responsibilities, and the critical thinking skills necessary for good decision-making. In addition, this position requires familiarity with basic computer skills.
• Knowledge of POS systems, Windows operating system, Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications required. Typing 35 words per minute is required.
• This employee must have the ability to work with a culturally and socially diverse population as represented by the employees, customers, and clients of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.
• Employees must frequently stand, walk, talk and hear, use hands to handle or touch product, tools, or controls.
• Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds without assistance and occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs. with assistance from equipment or another person.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• Employee must be able to follow instructions and work autonomously on assigned job duties
• Employee must be able to work assigned shifts consistently and reliably

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

• Zoned Workflow: The floor is divided into distinct stations: Receiving, Sorting, Testing (Hard Goods), Grading (Apparel), Pricing, and Outbound Logistics.
• High Activity: It is a fast-paced, "standing-room-only" environment. Expect constant movement of rolling bins (Z-racks, gaylords (cardboard boxes), and tilt trucks).
• Dust & Textiles: Significant presence of dust and lint from processing bulk clothing.
• Noise: Constant ambient noise from rolling carts, tape dispensers, pallet jacks, and overhead music.
• Climate: Often follows warehouse standards—can be drafty in winter or warm in summer depending on the HVAC capabilities.
• Metric-Driven: Workers often have individual or team targets
• Quality Control: While speed is king, "Quality over Quantity" still applies to prevent "junk" from reaching the floor and wasting retail space.
• Safety First: Because of the physical nature, there is a heavy focus on proper lifting techniques, PPE (gloves are standard), and "clean floor" policies to prevent trip hazards.
