State Government Audit Director

A growing CPA firm seeks an Audit Director with expertise in State and Local Government affairs. Relocation support is provided to successful candidates.Role DetailsThe Audit Director will serve as the main point of contact between the Partner, client, and professional team. Responsibilities include overseeing multiple auditing and accounting projects simultaneously, as well as coordinating workflow, staffing, and scheduling for client engagements.Directors will mentor and develop staff, establish new business connections, and play a key role in maintaining client relationships. This position requires a strong foundation in the Manager role and a demonstrated potential for growth within the firm.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild and maintain strong client relationships by staying in touch throughout the year and understanding their operations and control systems.Act as an engagement partner or report directly to one, signing attest opinions when assigned this role.Ensure client deliverables meet accounting standards and firm policies, keeping the engagement Partner informed of any critical developments.Oversee engagement scheduling, supervise staff, and provide on-the-job training.Contribute to business development efforts by representing the firm and generating leads.Review work papers, conduct evaluations, and participate in recruitment activities.Requirements10+ years of public accounting experience, including 2+ years in a senior manager role with a focus on auditing state and local governments.Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field, along with an active CPA license.Proven ability to attract new business to a CPA firm and conduct audits in accordance with relevant standards.Familiarity with General Accepted Governmental Auditing Standards, GAAS, and the Uniform Guidance.Experience working with nonprofit organizations and directing departmental staff.Working ConditionsHybrid work environment with flexibility to work from home, office, or client sites as needed.Occasional same-day travel to client offices and out-of-town trips with overnight stays.Overtime may be required, especially during peak periods from August to February.
