Controller

Our client, a growing real estate investment and management firm, is seeking a Controller to oversee the day‑to‑day accounting operations and lead a high‑performing finance team. This is a hands‑on leadership role reporting directly to the CFO and offers the opportunity to play a key role in supporting the firm’s continued growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in real estate accounting, experience managing teams, and the ability to improve processes while maintaining accurate financial reporting across a diverse property portfolio. Responsibilities Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process for the corporate entity and property portfolio. Manage the preparation and review of financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Lead and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance and oversight on day‑to‑day operations. Review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules. Partner with Asset Management, Acquisitions, and Property Management teams to support business initiatives and investment activity. Coordinate the annual audit and work closely with external auditors and tax advisors. Oversee cash management, budgeting support, and lender reporting. Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements. Identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve the overall accounting function. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance CPA preferred 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant real estate industry experience Prior Big 4 or public accounting experience preferredBackground in commercial real estate, multifamily, industrial, office, retail, or mixed‑use assets Prior experience managing or mentoring an accounting team Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting principles Experience with ERP systems such as Yardi, MRI, or similar accounting platforms is preferred Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across multiple departments #J-18808-Ljbffr Cobalt Recruitment
