Facilities Management (FM) provides maintenance, grounds, and custodial services to the entire campus. FM partners with Contract Colleges, Endowed, and Student and Campus Life, and is responsible for facility assessments, skilled trades, general construction, building care, grounds, recycling, asbestos, and the management of planned, corrective, and preventive maintenance. Responsibilities Assist Journeyperson in all aspects of electrical/control trade, maintain shop machinery, tools, equipment, and read/interpret blueprints. Gain knowledge and experience during the apprenticeship period. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, employee will be classified as a Journeyperson. Qualifications Experience modeling values that support inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing. High school diploma or equivalent. Mechanical aptitude for equipment repair and maintenance. Excellent verbal and written skills, customer relations skills, and ability to work in a team environment. Must belong to the local Electrician Union or be able to join within 30 days after starting employment at Cornell. Must have and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (own or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites. Ability to maintain a safe work environment. Risk exposure to asbestos, toxic vapors, heat, cold, height, and accumulated dirt. Available to work overtime as duties require, including weekends. Possibility of shift work. Able to ascend and descend heights and have agility and freedom of movement. Climb stairs and ladders. Able to move easily in confined spaces. Ability to wear a respirator and other employer-provided safety equipment. Ability to lift and/or move at least 50 pounds. Preferred Qualifications Work experience in the electrical/control field and formal training beyond high school strongly desired. Benefits This is a benefit-eligible, union position within the BTC. The starting pay rate is $20.86/hour and depends on apprenticeship year.
